Defiant Linda Nolan, who has sadly passed away at the age of 65, shared a hopeful ambition in her last interview that now makes for a very heartbreaking read

Linda Nolan has passed away at the age of 65

Linda Nolan made a heartbreaking New Year’s resolution in her last ever interview before she died.

The singer was determined to live her life to the fullest as she grappled with her diagnosis. The singer was first told she had the cancer in 2005 and went into remission a year later. But in 2017, she devastatingly announced she had been diagnosed with a secondary cancer in her hip, which spread to her liver in 2020. Three years later, the cancer had spread to her brain.

In her final interview just before Christmas, Linda told OK! Magazine she had one wish for the new year. With unmatched defiance, the Nolan sister said: “My hope for this year? To not die, obviously. I just want to be here with my family. I want us all to be here this time next year, that’s the goal.”

The star spoke frankly and admitted she thought her 60th birthday would “be my last” but added: “I’m still here five years later.”

Despite her health struggles over Christmas, Linda, who also appeared in Celebrity Big Brother, remained admirably positive. She shared: “I try to stay positive, I’ll use jokes and humour as a way to cope, but of course it’s scary. And I have my days where I’m terribly down.”

Meanwhile, in her final column for The Mirror, Linda revealed how her health had taken a bad turn over the festive period.

The column, titled ‘I didn’t eat for 11 days over Christmas – I thought, ‘Oh my God, is this it?’, was published on December 8 and was Linda’s first piece in 2025. She wrote: “Chicken curry with pineapple, no mushrooms. I’d never have imagined that would be my first bite of 2025 – but there it is. Denise and Tom were ordering a Chinese on Sunday and suddenly that’s what I fancied.

“Pineapple in a curry. That was the foil container to finally tempt me out of my fast. My very own Chinese New Year. I hadn’t eaten for 11 days – what a Christmas! A complete wipeout. Everyone’s been so worried. The girls have been bringing me energy drinks and that’s all I’ve been able to get down. The doctors say it’s been a bad case of flu.

“I became so weak I’d walk a few steps and struggle to catch my breath. My legs were even more wobbly than usual and of course although I try not to, I immediately thought of how Bernie was at the end. You think, Oh my God, is this it?”

Linda continued: “On New Year’s Eve, Denise was so worried she got me checked out at the hospital and they gave me steroids on top of antibiotics. They sent me back home to rest and she was then reassured enough to go to Coleen’s New Year’s party as my friend Sue and her husband Graham came round to stay. I was asleep by 10.10pm – but that was pretty good going!

“I missed out on pizzas and babies – our new great nephews, Coleen’s son Jake’s boy and our brother Tommy’s new grandson. But for the first time in my life I wasn’t in the mood for cuddles.”

In a statement released to the Mirror on Wednesday, January 15, agent Dermot McNamara, says: “It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Linda Nolan, the celebrated Irish pop legend, television personality, Guinness World Record holding West End star, Sunday Times bestselling author and Daily Mirror columnist.”

The statement continued: “She passed peacefully, with her loving siblings by her bedside, ensuring she was embraced with love and comfort during her final moments

“Linda’s legacy extends beyond her incredible achievements in music and entertainment. She was a beacon of hope and resilience, sharing her journey to raise awareness and inspire others. Rest in peace, Linda. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.”
