Liverpool are certainly enjoying life under Jurgen Klopp’s successor Arne Slot but the German still features among the club’s main headlines months after his initial exit

Liverpool have a rare weekend off this week as they edge towards the Premier League crown.

The Reds sit 13 points clear at the top of the table after their win against Newcastle. But having already been eliminated from the FA Cup in the previous round, they will not take to the pitch over the next few days.

It gives them plenty of time to get prepared for their next game – a Champions League showdown with French side Paris Saint-Germain next week. Ahead of that, Liverpool have announced their financial results for the previous campaign.

There’s also been plenty of talk around former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp over the past 24 hours. Take a look at the latest headlines…

Klopp trolled by fans

Mainz fans have ruthlessly trolled Jurgen Klopp for his controversial career change. The German was appointed as Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer earlier this year.

But the switch did not go down particularly well with fans in Germany, who tore into Klopp. And Mainz supporters have now shared their anger once again. They have put together a float for the city’s carnival parade on Monday.

It depicts him with wings made of money, holding a can of the Red Bull energy drink and a football. A message on the side of the float also reads: “For Kloppo values he no longer cares about, used to matter. Because Red Bull lures with a lot of money, he is now falling off his pedestal with a crash.”

Klopp payout revealed

On the topic of Klopp, it has been revealed that the German and his staff were handed significant payouts upon their exits from Anfield. He announced that he would depart in January last year with two years remaining on his contract.

In confirming their accounts for last term, it has been confirmed that Klopp and his backroom staff, including Pep Lijnders, Peter Krawietz, Vitor Matos, John Achterberg, Jack Robinson, Andreas Kornmayer and Andreas Schlumberger, received combined payouts of £9.6million.

That managerial change grew even more expensive given the fee that Liverpool had to pay to replace Klopp. They agreed a deal worth £7.7m plus add ons with Feyenoord for Slot’s signature.

Antony almost signed for Liverpool

While Liverpool forked out for Klopp and Slot, one man they did not pay for is Antony. The Manchester United misfit has revealed he almost became a Red before his big-money move to Anfield.

Speaking to Kooora, he said: “True.. I was very close to signing for Liverpool, but you never know what would have happened. In the end, I went to Manchester and had great moments there, and that was a good choice as well.”

Antony is currently on loan at Real Betis and has scored three goals across his opening six games for the Spanish side.
