Liverpool are expected to be busy in the January transfer window as boss Arne Slot looks to reinforce his side ahead of the title run-in, though the Dutchman has been forced to change his plans

January is already shaping up to be a busy month for Liverpool as they look to maintain their place at the top of the Premier League.

The Reds have surged to first place despite only signing Federico Chiesa in the summer. But boss Arne Slot may look to reinforce his squad during the winter window given it looks increasingly likely his side will be fighting for honours on four fronts in 2025.

There will also be much attention on the futures of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, all of whom are out of contract at the end of the season. The Reds have already rejected a bid from Real Madrid for Alexander-Arnold.

Slot has now spoken out about the future of the Englishman and expects him to stay for the reminder of his current deal at least. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Liverpool transfer news.

Reds make transfer U-turn

Liverpool have recalled full-back Calvin Ramsay from his loan at Wigan Athletic. The 21-year-old had hoped to get regular game time this season with the League One side, who he joined in the summer.

But the move has not worked out as hoped, with Ramsay making just three starts in all competitions. Wigan have confirmed he has now returned to Liverpool and he is set to be loaned back out.

In a statement, the Latics said: “We can confirm that defender Calvin Ramsay has returned to Liverpool FC. The 21-year-old originally signed a season-long loan deal in the summer, but leaves the Brick Community Stadium after making 12 appearances in all competitions.”

Slot speaks out on Alexander-Arnold future

Arne Slot has insisted that Trent Alexander-Arnold is not for sale after Liverpool rejected a bid from Real Madrid for the right-back. The right-back will see his contract expire in the summer and Slot expects him to at least stay until then.

“It was a conversation as many others we had, me and Trent, so let’s leave it at that. I can tell you he is playing on Sunday and hopefully he brings the same performances as he brought in for the last half-year,” he said.

“Everybody saw how great a first half of the season he had, how much he is here, how much he wants to win here. I see him on the training ground every day working his ass off. He is fully committed to us and he will play on Sunday.”

Doak bid rejected

Liverpool have rejected Crystal Palace’s £15million bid for Ben Doak. The 19-year-old is currently enjoying a successful spell on loan at Middlesbrough, winning the Championship’s Player of the Month for November.

His performances attracted the eye of Palace, who submitted a £15m bid for him on Friday. But Liverpool are understood to believe the offer is well short of the club’s valuation of the Scotland international.

They won’t accept any bids below their valuation, which is expected to be north of £20m. Palace may come back with another offer but they will have to significantly up their bid to stand any chance of landing the promising wide player.
