A former Love Island favourite has opened up on a recent health diagnosis that has her fearing for her career. Season eight star Indiyah Polack has revealed she has recently been diagnosed with having ADHD, and she says she is fearful of how it will affect her career.

The 26-year-old reality TV star has forged a successful career since leaving the ITV show’s villa with current boyfriend Dami Hope. She recently hosted the MOBO Awards for the second year running as the event went to Newcastle for the first time in its history. However, she has admitted her latest diagnosis has been “tough” to take in.

According to the NHS, ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and is “a condition that affects people’s behaviour. People with ADHD can seem restless, may have trouble concentrating and may act on impulse.”

Indiyah revealed she hadn’t wanted to open up about it publicly in case it affected her career. She spoke to Shayna Marie and Zeze Millz on Hot Girl Talks on Capital XTRA: “There’s a lot of things that have happened with me like mentally.

“As a black woman, I had been shy to disclose, so recently I have been diagnosed with ADHD. And that was something I was very up in the air about talking about.”

She went on : “Because I didn’t want that to be a factor of my career, or the factor of whether I get booked for jobs, or just a factor in everything.

“Because I feel like being a black woman, we have a lot of things already against us. So, to go and chuck in another thing, it is just something I’d rather not tell them about.”

She confessed, however, that the revelation has made some aspects of her life make more sense. “I think it made a lot of things clearer in my life as to why certain things happened,” she added.

“I started seeing things happening in my adult life, even in this industry, that affected me, and I was like ‘oh that happened in secondary school.’ So, I feel it’s more of an understanding, but I think it’s sort of checking into your mental, finding out if there is something wrong or if you’re not feeling okay.”

Indiyah’s career has seen her go from being a waitress to being a household name thanks to her time in the Love Island villa in 2022. She has went on to also host the dating show’s spin-off series called Love Island: After Sun.

As well as time on screen, she bagged contracts with brands such as Boots and PrettyLittleThing.
