Luke Littler has enjoyed several meetings with Manchester United’s squad under Erik ten Hag’s management, but the Dutchman is now at serious risk of being sacked

Darts star and Manchester United superfan Luke Littler has backed Erik ten Hag to keep his job despite his side’s awful start to the season.

Littler is gearing up for his World Grand Prix clash against Rob Cross on Monday night. This is the teenager’s first full season as a bonafide superstar having reached the final of the World Championships last year.

His new-found stardom have also seen him invited to United’s Carrington training ground and presented to the Old Trafford crowd. But while many fans are now calling for Ten Hag to be sacked, Littler is not joining those unhappy supporters.

United’s hierarchy are meeting on Tuesday to decide Ten Hag’s future, with the club 14th in the Premier League after winning just two of their opening seven games in the top-flight this term.

Even so, Littler believes the Dutchman remains the right man for the job. He urged other Red Devils fans to keep the faith and only judge Ten Hag at the end of the season.

He told BBC Radio Manchester: “I agree with what he said. He said don’t judge us now, judge us at the end of the season. Obviously it’s been a slow start and I agree, just judge us at the end of the season, whether we do well or we bad. It’s a bad start, but I’m sure we can pick up from it.”

Littler also jokingly admitted that he would rather United won the Premier League than he himself lift silverware. When asked if he would rather win the worlds or win the Premier League, Littler replied: “Win the Premier League.”

Not everyone is backing Ten Hag like Littler though, with Thomas Tuchel thought to be leading the race to replace him. But the Dutchman is trying to keep the noise out following a bore draw with Aston Villa.

“We always speak, every week we speak. We are all on board together, on one page, we know what we are working through it’s a long-term process. We have come through two very tough away games,” he told Sky Sports.

“This is a team, we showed the belief and faith we have. I think it’s the fourth clean sheet this season. You see we had a very good organisation and togetherness. There was good character and good spirit as a team. Determined, resilient.

“We almost didn’t concede a chance, when you defend like this and get some luck, in the end they had a big chance but it was almost the only chance I think. We created some chances, also not so many chances.

“But the two teams were really balanced. We know in this moment we have a lack of goals, in that perspective it’s not a good start, we have to step up. That’s an area we have to improve. But we have four clean sheets. That’s good because we have to defend proper.”
