A beautiful town which is located just a few minutes drive away from the Lake District National Park is the perfect place for a peaceful staycation – here we explore the town in Cumbria

A magical town which is surrounded by “breathtaking” views with mountains is hiding just a few miles south of the Lake District. Ulverston in Cumbria offers a fairytale-style getaway with colourful cottages, cobbled streets, and enchanting side alleys. The stunning town is known for its magnificent scenery and features an array of walking trails.

Anyone thinking about visiting the magnificent area, can expect to get a glimpse of its wildlife and animals. Spotting sheep and cows tends to be a usual sighting and that’s all without visiting the local Bardsea Alpacas And Llamas farm, which was crowned with a Travellers’ Choice award. The historic town has built a reputation for fabulous music events and its traditional markets. According to Visit Lake District, the town offers a “truly unique” experience. The website states: “Festival-happy Ulverston knows how to celebrate events.

“The party capital of Furness hosts a series of specialist events throughout the year, where visitors also get the chance to sample the town’s wonderful collection of cosy pubs, traditional markets and cultural hotspots. Surrounding the town is the gently rolling farmland of the Furness Peninsula. Along the seashore are some lovely coastal villages; Bardsea, Baycliff, Aldingham and Newbiggin, these all have stunning views over Morecambe Bay.”

It added: “Ulverston’s cafés, bars and restaurants reflect this truly unique, festival market town and wherever possible the menus use both local and seasonal produce. Enter a different world of quirky cafés with certificates of excellence, selling homemade concoctions of oils, spices and pickles and all manner of other curiosities.”

Tourists have also backed the picturesque town and said it offered peaceful “woodland walks” and a “stunning” beach. One person wrote on TripAdvisor: “We found a car park next to the start of the Cumbrian Way in Ulverston and had a stroll. Beautiful countryside and a nice walk along the footpath. Thoroughly enjoyed it.”

Another person commented: “Step back in time and hike paths through working farms. A great way to view the magnificence of the countryside and fresh air that surrounds Ulverston, if you are lucky enough to pass by or catch up to a local, many are more than willing to share a few stories along the way.”

One traveller described their visit to the town’s popular wellbeing site, Manjushri Kadampa Meditation Centre. They said: “Been wanting to visit for quite a while. Did not disappoint. It’s a beautiful setting, woodland walks, stunning when you get to the beach. So peaceful and calming to just sat awhile and breathe the fresh air.”

Last year, Ulverston was branded one of the best places to buy a house in the UK. The town was ranked in a list by The Times, which said: “On the Furness peninsula on the edge of the vast sweep of Morecambe Bay, Ulverston has long been popular with downsizers, but now this sturdy market town is also the picturesque choice for families lured by lucrative jobs in Barrow-in-Furness — and the schools are good to outstanding. Homes (from about £300,000) along the Coast Road from the village of Bardsea, with its dog-friendly beach, have the best views of the water.”
