The YouTube sensation says hydration is key

It’s very easy to fall into a routine when it comes to skincare, relying on the same products we have used for years.

But makeup artist, Wayne Goss, who boasts over 4m YouTube followers, recently shared his thoughts on how we could be making mistakes when trying to disguise wrinkles and smooth out the skin.

The expert said: “The majority of us will be using makeup to help improve how we look, or even help cover up some of the wrinkles we’ve gained over the years.

“However, due to some mistakes, the make-up that we’re wearing could actually be doing the opposite effect, and could potentially be adding not just one or two, but up to ten years to our face.”

Goss explained the importance of hydration and why Hyaluronic acid is a must-have ingredient for more mature skin.

He said: “As we get older, our skin will naturally become drier, which is why hydrating ingredients are so important as you get into your older age.

“Look for makeup with ingredients such as Hyaluronic acid when you’re on your next make-up and skincare shopping haul to ensure that your products are keeping your skin hydrated.”

The expert also gave his advice on how to best use moisturiser, he added: “Before you start applying anything to your face, ensure that you’ve applied a heavy moisturiser to ensure your skin stays hydrated.

“Use a good primer before you start applying your make-up to ensure it’ll act as a barrier between your skin and your makeup to help the makeup stay in the right places all day, rather than just in the fine lines.”

Goss, who also runs the cosmetics site Wayne Goss and launched his sell-out First Edition Collection brushes just last year, had some other top tips including avoiding metallic eye makeup as “matte generally works best as it doesn’t draw attention to wrinkled areas or creases.”

He also explained that “Cream concealer is always recommended above liquids, and I’d highly recommend applying some on the inner corner of your eye, as that’s the one part of the eye that doesn’t crease.”
