A horrifying case in the Indianapolis, US saw two babies kidnapped in a stolen car and left to freeze in a ditch – a good samaritan found the tots and cared for them
A man was horrified to discover two babies dumped in a ditch in freezing temperatures outside his home.
Robert Deane left his home on the southeast side of Indianapolis, Indiana, US, to collect some packages, only to find two car seats in a ditch. The two children, aged four and five months were thankfully found alive and are doing well – police said they were kidnapped inside a stolen vehicle.
The children were left outside in freezing temperatures of -2C, but it is not yet known how long for. Indianapolis police spokesman William Young said: “It’s cold out here. Who knows what could have happened if this particular individual was not able to come outside. It’s extremely cold, and we’re still in our early stages of trying to figure out who was responsible for this.”
Young praised Mr Deane for taking care of the girls as police arrived, adding: “He did what any good person would do. He got those infants to shelter. This is an outcome that we wanted. I can’t thank that good Samaritan enough. We don’t have a suspect in custody, but that will be our next priority is figuring out who is responsible for this particular incident.”
Mr Deane told USA Today: “I’d do it again. If you see something, like a baby in a ditch, say something, do something.
The two baby girls are cousins and were found unharmed. Police are still on the lookout for the person who stole the car and left the defenceless tots in the ditch. “We don’t have a suspect in custody, but that will be our next priority is figuring out who is responsible for this particular incident,” Young said.
It comes after a newborn baby died in mid-November after being thrown from 4th floor window on Skid Row in Los Angeles, California, police say. Police say the baby boy was found dead in an alleyway across from 500 block of San Pedro Street in downtown Los Angeles. They report a passer-by intervened in the horror scene and attempted to give the baby At CPR while waiting for first responders. Sadly the newborn was pronounced dead at the scene.
The baby was possibly thrown from a 4th-floor bathroom window after the mother gave birth. Around the same time as the incident, a woman was taken to the hospital because bleeding from her pubic area, reports abc7. The woman taken to hospital for treatment was later detained by police who attended shortly after and then released pending further investigation.
