A man divided TikTok viewers after posting a now-viral video of himself carving into a cooked chicken, only to make a “jaw-dropping” discovery in the middle of the bird

Whipping up a whole chicken is a great way to fill up the family.

You can either chuck it in the oven with some veggies and spuds, or toss it into a hearty stew. It’s pretty simple to cook and requires just a couple of hours to roast (if not more). But grilling a whole chicken shouldn’t come with many surprises, at least you’d hope.

Well, one bloke on TikTok caused quite the stir by showing off his “pregnant chicken” in a clip that’s gone viral. The caption, which read: “Mad ting pregnant chicken (sic),” has racked up a whopping 1.7 million likes and 20,000 comments since hitting the internet.

The footage reveals a perfectly roasted chicken, but then there’s a bizarre twist smack bang in the middle of the bird. Hold your horses before you jump to conclusions – it’s not what you think, although it left many viewers scratching their heads.

One user quipped: “Bro hit the jackpot,” while another cracked: “Must be true, it’s on TikTok.” A third was gobsmacked, confessing: “The way my jaw-dropped.” And a fourth said: “Why did I believe it for a second?”

Meanwhile, other TikTok viewers were side-eyeing the whole thing, with one blasting: “That’s so sad,” and another adding: “People make me feel so smart.” Another commented in disbelief: “Nah because I just sat here upset until I realised they lay eggs.”

Hens, or female chickens, are known to lay eggs for a period of five to 10 years. This usually commences around the age of 18 weeks, although the exact timing can vary depending on the breed.

For example, hybrid hens such as ISA Browns typically start laying at 18 weeks, while pure breeds like Brahmas may not begin until they reach 28 weeks old. On average, hens lay approximately six eggs per week, but this number can fluctuate.

They tend to lay the most eggs during their first two years, but some may continue to do so for up to 10 years. Therefore, it’s impossible to find a chicken inside another unless it was intentionally placed there as a prank – which appears to be the case here.
