Erik ten Hag remains under intense pressure, with his Manchester United side now facing a crucial week, with matches in the Europa League, Premier League and Carabao Cup all upcoming

Manchester United are facing a crucial Halloween week as Erik ten Hag looks to avoid enduring another nightmare.

Ten Hag has overseen a largely dreadful start to the season, though United did beat Brentford on Saturday. They now travel to Fenerbahce on Thursday, before facing West Ham in the Premier League on Sunday and hosting Leicester in the Last 16 of the Carabao Cup next week.

A failure to win any of those games could end up with Ten Hag being handed his marching orders. United chiefs have now made it publicly clear that they are unhappy with the direction of the team this season.

To add to Ten Hag’s woes, Bayer Leverkusen are now gearing up to lose manager Xabi Alonso, who is a top target for United. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Manchester United news.

United chiefs ‘unhappy’ with Ten Hag

Manchester United chiefs are “not happy” with their start to the season under Erik ten Hag. His long-term future remains in question, with the clubs’s chief communications officer admitting at a fan forum meeting that higher-ups are “not happy” with their recent form.

Toby Craig, who joined from Chelsea over the summer, said: “Clearly we are not happy with the men’s first team’s start to the season and results are not where we want them to be. There is a huge amount of change going on.

“We believe we came out of the summer transfer window with a stronger squad, but it’s one that is still evolving with a number of younger players who will keep getting better. We know there’s still a lot to do.”

Carragher hails Hojlund

Jamie Carragher believes Rasmus Hojlund is finally living up to his £72million price tag. Hojlund has only been able to make six appearances this season due to injury, but Carragher has been pleased with what he has seen from the striker.

“Hojlund, I think he’s starting to look a player. I was really impressed with him in Porto a couple of weeks ago, he put a real shift in,” Carragher told Monday Night Football.

“There’s real talent in the front three, but the man who gets the winning goal, I think he’s starting to look a player. I think the combination of that front three is maybe something that can keep them going.”

Alonso stance on United job

Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso appears likely to turn down the chance to replace Erik ten Hag having already rejected Manchester United once. Ten Hag is under serious pressure, while Alonso’s star is rapidly rising after leading Bayer Leverkusen to an Invincibles Bundesliga season last term.

United reportedly explored a move over the summer, before deciding to keep faith with Ten Hag. It appeared to be a non-starter, though, even before the eventual decision to back their current boss with a contract extension.

Alonso is understood to have rejected the chance to take over at Old Trafford over the summer. It is thought the Spaniard would be reluctant to join United due to his ties with their rivals Liverpool.
