Yeah, we’re doing this.
To see both Liverpool and Manchester United’s positions in the Premier League table, you’d need a large big screen. Arne Slot’s side are sitting pretty at the summit, with 2025 set to be a special year at Anfield.
For United, they can’t wait for the season to end. Ruben Amorim has taken over a sinking ship and there’s no lifeboat back to Lisbon – or a time machine, taking him back to when Liverpool were interested in him. If he needed any reminding of how tough Sunday’s game will be, the Red Devils last scored in this fixture in December 2018 and haven’t beaten Liverpool away since January 2016.
So, could that change? Or will Slot’s machine keep turning over opponents?
We asked the Mirror Football team how the game will pan out and for their score predictions.

Liverpool are so superior to United that if Arne Slot’s team turn up and play to their usual level then they could win by any margin.
Erik ten Hag turned up at Anfield last season, stuck all 11 United players behind the ball, and escaped back down the East Lancs Road with a goalless draw. Virgil van Dijk was far from happy with his fellow Dutchman’s set-up – but the Liverpool captain should not expect anything more progressive from Ruben Amorim.
United went to the Etihad last month, stayed in the game despite going behind, and then hit Manchester City with the mother of all sucker punches to snatch all three points. But that was City in decline. This is Liverpool on the up. It wasn’t long ago that United conceded seven at Anfield. They haven’t even scored on Liverpool soil for six years. I’m expecting it to get messy.

Bookies should refuse to take bets on Liverpool winning, because there is only one outcome. These two bitter rivals and giants of English football have never been so far apart as they are now.
Liverpool look unstoppable, while United resemble an utter shambles. Only someone living on the moon would fancy United to get a result at Anfield, where it could be another chastising afternoon for Ruben Amorim.

Liverpool riding high, Manchester United struggling, and an Anfield crowd expecting to see a massacre. The result? 0-0.
It is only just over a year ago that Erik ten Hag’s side ground out a goalless draw which prevented their rivals from going top of the Premier League, but the United boss – determined to overcome the embarrassment of losing this fixture 7-0 the previous season – had no intention of doing anything other than setting his side up to defend that day. Liverpool battered them and had 34 shots, but couldn’t score.
The difference now is that Ruben Amorim can’t play that way. What’s the point? His mission is to get United back to playing front foot football. It is the first thing they need to do if they are to get anywhere under the new manager in the long run.
His approach has already brought some short-term pain, and that will probably continue here, but the high point of the win at Manchester City shouldn’t be forgotten.
Unfortunately for Amorim and United, Arne Slot and Liverpool are just too focused, too savvy and ultimately too good for them. They’ll create better chances than Jurgen Klopp’s side did last season because they won’t be in such a rush, and they’ll take them.

I’ve made a habit of regularly predicting a United thrashing, only for them to somehow find a result. And at some point you need to learn from your mistakes. That point isn’t here however, I think Liverpool will humiliate Amorim and his remarkably average team of under-performers.
Liverpool are better in every position on the pitch, and at this point in their respective tenures, they also have a serious advantage in the dugout. Amorim’s system doesn’t suit the players and a good win over a Man City team in crisis, doesn’t tell me they will do it again.
This could get really bad, really quickly.

All the signs point to a dominant Liverpool victory – and that should be exactly what happens at Anfield. Arne Slot has his side well-drilled, organised and fluent in attack. And basically, Manchester United are completely the opposite. The only way to describe them frankly is a mess.
Their defence has looked woefully sub-par all season long, and has gotten even worse since Ruben Amorim’s arrival at Old Trafford. Mo Salah should have a field day in what could potentially be his final clash with the Red Devils at Anfield. But this game will be won in midfield. Ryan Gravenberch will dominate United’s pedestrian midfield, while the creativity of Alexis Mac Allister will be sure to shine through.
Jamie Carragher is spot on, it’s going to get worse – and much, much worse for that matter – for United before it starts to get better. It’s going to be a long afternoon for Amorim and his side.

With three straight defeats and no goals scored across those games, it’s hard to see Manchester United troubling any opponent – let alone Liverpool.
Arne Slot’s league leaders have lost just once all season, and swatted United aside when Erik ten Hag was at the helm. Ruben Amorim may yet make a better fist of things than his predecessor, but he looks some way away from that as things stand.
Mohamed Salah’s record against United speaks for itself, and he’ll be hungry for more goals. The visitors don’t look capable of shutting up shop and keeping opponents quiet, so you really fear for them in the face of Liverpool’s attacking depth.
United’s FA Cup win against Liverpool last term feels like the best case scenario – a chaotic affair where it’s still all to play for in the final few minutes. Even if Amorim’s side get on the scoresheet, it’s hard to see them shutting out their opponents, but step one might be difficult enough on its own.

Sorry United fans, things are only going to get worse. Liverpool are flying and I can’t see a way that United stop Arne Slot’s league leaders.
Under Ruben Amorim, the Red Devils have developed a penchant for shipping sloppy goals. It’s the worst possible scenario for them to head to Anfield in. And that’s before even thinking about the form of Mohamed Salah.
The Reds smashed West Ham last week and I can only see them doing the same to United. Nothing about the Red Devils suggests to me that they can claim a win or even a draw on Sunday.

It’s a funny old game. Logically, this shouldn’t even be a debate. Why did we even write all this? What’s the point?
Because football. That’s why. This could end 10-0 and I wouldn’t be surprised – the gulf between these teams is that much. But something tells me there’s a twist, just like last season when Erik ten Hag’s men produced a stubborn performance when everyone expected Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool to wipe the floor with United.
Although they shouldn’t need any extra motivation, the January transfer window is open and United appear to be ready to wield the axe on anyone who Ruben Amorim doesn’t fancy. Sir Alex Ferguson believes that fear can be both a killer and an inspiration, and for United it must be the latter on Sunday.
It’s been six years since United last scored a goal at Anfield but I reckon they’ll knick one – and a result.
