Manchester United’s summer business will likely be determined by whether or not they win next week’s Europa League final – which will either see them in the Champions League next year or without European football entirely.

Ruben Amorim will be eyeing success, which will then allow him to invest in his squad. The current situation in Manchester doesn’t make for good reading but the Portuguese manager is yet to get in the players that will properly compliment his philosophy.

United are heavily linked with Matheus Cunha, who has thrived at Wolves. Liam Delap is also very much on their radar after an impressive season at Ipswich and scoring goals has been a major issue in Manchester – especially with their frontmen underdelivering.

With that in mind attacking reinforcements are high up on the shortlist – as are wing-backs. The 3-4-3 system means that players with specific skillsets are needed and we take a look at who Amorim and co are eyeing up this summer.

Semenyo’s price tag

United are looking to land Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo this summer – and have been told that the Cherries will let him go for £60, reports the Independent. The Red Devils have made contact over a summer deal, but do face competition.

Arsenal, who themselves need to add more firepower, are thought to be closely monitoring the situation. Bournemouth are in a strong position when it comes to negotiations over Semenyo and won’t be pressurised into his exit.

The frontman, who is also on Newcastle’s radar, only signed a new contract last year and the Cherries will be looking to avoid a mass exodus this summer with a number of their leading lights linked with the exit door.

Academy search underway

United chief Jason Wilcox is on the lookout for a new academy coach with Adam Lawrence leaving to pursue opportunities as first-team boss. The 39-year-old has had several offers and is now weighing up his options – but that has left a void at Carrington.

Lawrence’s exit had been likely and he’s looking to work in a first-team environment but is equally open to a fresh academy challenge. Wilcox and Nick Cox are now eyeing someone to replace the outgoing coach with talks already underway, reports the MEN.

Wilcox is among those bought to Manchester under the Sir Jim Ratcliffe reign and serves as technical director, but did step in as sporting director. Earlier in his career Wilcox himself was the academy director at Manchester City and has proven himself in that capacity.

Cut-price Lyon star offered

Rayan Cherki, who was a star when Lyon came to Manchester in the last eight of the Europa League, and his representatives are working hard to find their client a new club, according to Caught Offside. The attacking midfielder has been offered to United and Liverpool ahead of the summer transfer window opening.

United are thought to be keen on Cherki given that he has a low price tag of around £19m. His influence in the final third would be a huge plus for Amorim and the club are actively seeking to bolster their attacking resources.
