Manchester United are set for a busy end to the January transfer window, with Marcus Rashford expected to leave Old Trafford after falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim

Ruben Amorim reflects on Arsenal victory

Manchester United are ramping things up as the January transfer window nears the halfway mark.

United are yet to make any new signings this month, but outgoings are expected in the coming days with Marcus Rashford the most likely departure. Rashford has not played for United since their 2-1 win over Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League last month, having been frozen out by Ruben Amorim.

Rashford has admitted he wants a “new challenge” and a number of clubs are hoping to sign the forward this month. With all that in mind, Mirror Football take a look at all the latest transfer news and rumous from Old Trafford…

Rashford’s AC Milan blow

AC Milan’s move to sign Rashford has been thrown into doubt after Noah Okafor’s switch to RB Leipzig collapsed.

Milan were hoping to sign the wantaway forward on loan and were looking to make space in their squad by selling Okafor to Leipzig. Okafor was set to join on loan for the rest of the season, with the deal then becoming in the summer for around €25million (£21m).

However, Sky Sports Germany are reporting that Leipzig have pulled the plug on the move after Okafor failed his medical, having been out of action with a calf problem in recent weeks. And that appears to be bad news for Rashford.

Barcelona boss makes call

Barcelona could be set to capitalise, with Spanish outlet Sport reporting that manager Hansi Flick has ‘endorsed’ a move for Rashford.

Rashford’s representatives are said to have met with club officials to discuss a switch to Spain and the report states that Flick is a fan of the forward’s versatility, having previously attempted to sign him when he was in charge of Bayern Munich.

However, it is claimed that Flick’s opinion is not shared by everyone at the club and there is some debate as to whether Rashford is the type of forward that Barcelona should be looking to sign this month.

Bayern want Mainoo

According to a report from the Sun, Bayern Munich are interested in signing United star Kobbie Mainoo.

United have been in talks with the midfielder over a pay rise, with Mainoo currently earning £20,000-a-week, but he is said to be after £200,000-a-week and the Red Devils are reluctant to meet those demands.

Chelsea are said to be waiting in the wings if a new deal cannot be agreed and the report states Bayern are also ‘planning to make a move’. The Bundesliga giants are long-term admirers of the 19-year-old.
