Wantaway Marcus Rashford has made it clear he wants to leave Manchester United in the January transfer window, but the Red Devils have been warned they may struggle to sell the attacker
The January transfer window is just a day away, with Manchester United expected to be one of the Premier League’s busier teams.
Ruben Amorim’s difficult start to his reign as United manager means that reinforcements will be crucial if their fortunes are to be turned around. But the club’s precarious position when it comes to Profit and Sustainability Rules means that sales will also be needed.
The player most likely to depart is Marcus Rashford after the attacker was frozen out by Amorim. But Rashford’s lucrative contract makes a sale difficult, with rival clubs unlikely to agree to his wage demands.
Elsewhere, United’s struggling stars could find themselves at risk of being moved on as part of an expected clearout. Here, Mirror Football rounds up the latest Manchester United transfer news.
Star urged to leave
Andre Onana has been told to leave Manchester United in the summer transfer window. Onana has endured another difficult year as he struggles to live up to the expectations of a United No.1, with the Cameroonian now being urged to find a new club.
“I’d be straight to the point and tell him, ‘Andre, you are one of the best ‘keepers in Europe but in the Premier League, you are under-performing, block out criticism, do some soul-searching, press the reset and go again’,” former Old Trafford misfit Massimo Taibi told The Sun.
“And if things don’t change by June, move on. I think subconsciously the United environment isn’t ideal for him and when a marriage is showing cracks, it’s pointless to continue. Sometimes things don’t work out at a team and it’s best to go separate ways, which would not be a failure.”

Leeds star set to reject United move
Leeds star Illan Meslier is expected to reject a move to Manchester United. With back-up keeper Altay Bayindir eyeing an exit from Old Trafford, the Frenchman has emerged as a potential replacement.
But according to GiveMeSport, Meslier would only consider an exit from Elland Road if he is to be the first choice at his new club. It is claimed that United’s interest will ‘revolve around’ Bayindir’s situation.
If they did look to sign Meslier, the Red Devils would be competing against a number of other suitors. The keeper is entering the final 18 months of his contract with the next two transfer windows being Leeds’ final opportunity to bring in a fee for him.
Rashford dilemna made clear
Alan Shearer believes United may find it difficult to sell wantaway star Marcus Rashford in January. The attacker has made it clear he is ready for a new challenge, but Shearer believes his lucrative contract could cause complications.
“The situation with Marcus Rashford will be sorted out, whether it’s sorted out in January, I guess for both parties will come to an agreement, but that’s part of the process of who he wants to get out of the club and who he wants to bring in,” he told Mirror Football.
“Clearly, it isn’t a healthy situation for the club, if Marcus doesn’t want to be there and the manager doesn’t want him there either. If that is the case, then it’s best for both parties that something sooner rather than later is sorted out – that’s easier said than done when you’re on a huge contract.”
