Homes Under the Hammer presenter Martin Roberts had surgery two years ago after doctors found fluid around his heart and the former I’m A Celebrity star has now shared an update

Martin Roberts has shared an update on his health after his “emergency operation” two years ago.

Martin, now 61, has previously spoken about having ended up in hospital in 2022 after experiencing chest pains. Fluid was said to have been found around his heart, which was “stopping” it working, and so he had surgery to get “rid of it”. The Homes Under the Hammer host has suggested that he had “hours to live” prior to the procedure. Martin, who has said that he’s been advised to “slow down” following the experience, has since been renovating a pub in Wales.

He has now shared an update, telling MailOnline that he “panics” whenever he feels “twinges” in his chest. Martin added that he doesn’t know “how much time” he has left but wants to do “as much as he can” for his latest project. Martin said: “The physical side of things took a lot longer than we thought to get around.

“I still get twinges and every single time I get a twinge in my chest, I panic.” He said that anyone who’s had issues with their heart would “attest”. He added that it “sends you into a flurry of worry” and then recalled asking the consultant who did the procedure how long he would have survived without it. Martin said that he was told he “probably had maybe two or three hours to live”.

The former I’m A Celebrity campmate shared that had he died, he would not be able to see his two children or fulfil “all” of his ambitions. Martin added that he would not be able to do “all the things” he wants to do in his life either, had he died at some point in the experience.

He described that as an example of the “psychological side” of the experience, which he said takes “a lot longer to get over” than the “physical side”. Martin continued: “I was told I need to slow down and take things easy and all that kind of stuff, and I’ve gone a completely other way.”

Martin said that’s why he has the project in Blaencwm, where he’s renovating a pub “for the community”. He said that it’s in collaboration with “local kids,” who are “disengaged and disadvantaged,” with him adding that it’s an opportunity for them to gain skills in construction.

He said that it involves “doing lots of good,” before saying that he doesn’t known “how much time” he’s “got left” so he just wants to do “as much” as he “possibly can to help”. Martin said it’s about “making a difference” because that’s “what you’ll be remembered for.”
