A McDonald’s fan has shared his thoughts on the McRib, which has been brought back to the UK for the first time in years, and many were left surprised by his complaint

McDonald’s enthusiasts are always on the edge of their seats for a new addition to the menu.

And this time, the return of the McRib sent foodies into a frenzy as they dashed to their local Maccies to try it. However, despite the hype since reappearing in McDonald’s Wednesday (October 16), the comeback of the long-lost McRib has been met with online dismay from fans who remember it fondly.

The pork burger, slathered in BBQ sauce with onions and pickles nestled within a soft roll, seems to have lost its former glory, with some regulars claiming the magic just isn’t there anymore. Previously celebrated for its grilled patties dripping in tangy BBQ sauce, many now decry the latest iteration as simply “dry” by comparison.

The McRib saga took another turn when Maccies cutomer George shared his disappointment in the McRib on Facebook group ‘Food Finds UK Official’. He broadcast his surprise at the lack of actual ribs in the burger. With two photos attached, his post read: “This is what they hyped us all up for? Seriously? It’s just a slab of pork in between two buns. They’re not even actual ribs!”

This revelation prompted mixed reactions from the community, leading one person to question: “What did you expect?” While someone else added: “Wow you thought they had ribs in them.”

A third retorted: “You expected bones in a burger?” While a fourth humorously added: “God help you when you find out Mars bars aren’t from Mars and Jamaican ginger cake isn’t from Jamaica.”

Many others on the post also called out the sauce issue, as one person asked: “Where’s the BBQ sauce gone?” Another lamented: “They used to be swimming in sauce.” While a third commented: “The whole pork patty used to be dripping in BBQ sauce, that’s gonna be way too dry!”

A McDonald’s spokesperson responded: “We are pleased to confirm the hugely anticipated arrival of the McRib on October 16th, returning to the UK for the first time since December 2014. The McRib is a limited-edition product and will be available whilst stocks last.

“Over the years the flavour of the product has remained the same, however we have evolved the way the sauce is dispensed. We have managed to remove complexity and simplify procedures for our crew members whilst still delivering the iconic McRib sauce, that our fans love.

“In the UK, we consider it important to separate pork and beef on the grill, so separate cooking processes and dedicated utensils have been implemented across our restaurants to allow us to satisfy McRib fans and finally bring it back to the UK.”

If you’re keen to give the McRib a go, you can snap one up for £4.49 solo or as part of a medium extra value meal for £6.19. Other fresh additions to the current McDonald’s menu include the McCrispy Deluxe, mini Hash Browns, new Cheese Bites, the Toffee Apple Pie, two new McFlurrys and a Toasted Marshmallow Latte.
