Tea and coffee lovers have been left delighted after a cleaning tip helps get the stubborn stains out of their favourite mugs.

Many people will be familiar with the dark brown stains left behind after finishing a mug of your favourite brew. These marks are caused by tannins, plant compounds found in food and drinks like tea, coffee, chocolate, and wine. While these can cause stubborn stains on the inside of cups, there is good news for your favourite mug after a woman shared her hack for getting even the most stained mugs sparkling clean again.

Jade Hampton shared her cleaning hack on the Mrs Hinch Army Cleaning Tips Facebook page where she shared ‘before and after’ snaps of her partner’s work mug, encrusted with two decades worth of tea residue. Shed tried everything from bleach to baking soda, soda crystals and white vinegar but to no avail, until she tried one cleaner that gave astounding” results, reports the Express.

Astonish Clean and Revive powder came to the rescue, Jade said, and it outshined the effects of bleach despite the length of time the mug had been stained. Posting alongside the before and after pics, Jade said: “My Partner’s work cup before and after. Had 20 years worth of tea stains (we live in a hard water area) and had tried bleach, soda crystals, baking soda and white vinegar to no avail. Just one tablespoon of Astonish Clean and Revive powder and it worked far better than bleach.”

Chief Executive Howard Moss at Astonish has spoken to Express.co.uk before, highlighting the impressive abilities of the Clean and Revive powder, mentioning: “The specially tailored formula is made to banish ingrained stains with minimal effort. No scrubbing is required for an easy clean. Leaves no residue and no smell. Simply add a tablespoon and hot water and leave until cool.”

Astonish Specialist Clean and Revive has been tailor-made for items such as “tea and coffee cups, teapots, flasks plus much more”. The formula is designed to “banish ingrained stains that dishwashers leave behind, restoring items to like new”. Currently, the Astonish Clean and Revive powder is a steal at Robert Dyas, with a price of just £2.39, reduced from its usual £2.99, which works out around 10p per 15g use. It’s also available for purchase directly from the Astonish website, though buyers can expect to pay a bit more with a price tag of £4.
