McDonald’s fans think the McRib – which contains a pork patty, shaped like ribs and covered in BBQ sauce – is finally coming back to the UK after an almost ten-year absense
McDonald’s fans are convinced an iconic item is returning to UK menus after spotting mysterious messages on the fast food chain’s app.
Maccies lovers believe the McRib is finally coming back. If you’ve never tried one before, the McRib contains a pork patty, which is shaped like ribs, covered in BBQ sauce. It was first launched in 1981 but was eventually dropped from the menu four years later. In the UK, the McRib was last on sale in 2015 – with fans regularly calling for its return.
It appears their prayers could soon be answered, after some people were sent curious message in the My McDonald’s UK app. One person showed a screengrab of a message which they said popped up on their screen, saying: “McRib_Test.notification_16.10.24 [TEST]”.
On the app itself, some people said they saw an “error” image notification which also mentioned the name of the burger, alongside a date of October 16. In a post published to X/Twitter, one person said: “Holy **** did McDonald’s just accidently announce they’re bringing the McRib back???”
Another person said: “So the entire country has just gone into meltdown.” One other added: “That exciting moment when @McDonaldsUK sends a test #McRib notification accidentally.” Some people weren’t convinced the messages were sent in error.
One person said: “Very clever marketing, @McDonaldsUK. A “test” notification that leads to a fake 404 page to make everyone think you messed up and released it early.” Another posted: “Either someone is getting sacked or this is the beginning of one of the biggest advertising pushes in fast food history.”
A spokesperson from McDonald’s told The Mirror: “McDonald’s is always looking to innovate with new and exciting menu items, as well as bringing back the fan favourites. If you’re keen to be the first to receive more info from McDonald’s stay tuned.”
It comes after McDonald’s brought back its iconic Grimace Milkshake earlier this month. The milkshake is inspired by the iconic purple McDonald’s character Grimace and is made by mixing blueberry syrup and a creamy milkshake base. The Grimace Milkshake was brought back to celebrate 50 years of McDonald’s in the UK.
The fast food chain has just refreshed its menu and has added a new Twix Latte, which features a Twix flavour syrup, topped with caramel cream and crumbs of the chocolate bar on top. The comeback items also include its beloved Mozzarella Dippers and the Philly Cheese Stack.
These sticks of Mozzarella cheese are coated in breadcrumbs and served with Salsa dip, while the burger features two beef patties, grilled and crispy onions, cheese sauce, two cheddar cheese slices and pickles, all stuffed into a toasted bun. The Philly Cheese Stack contains two beef patties with a cheese sauce, two cheese slices, grilled and crispy onions and pickles served in a toasted bun.
