Michelle Trachtenberg’s friends are said to have had no idea about her declining health in the weeks leading up to her devastating death on Wednesday

Friends of Michelle Trachtenberg were kept in the dark over her declining health.

The late Gossip Girl star was tragically found dead at a residential address in New York on Wednesday, aged just 39. Her death is currently not being treated as suspicious by authorities. While its believed that she had complications from a from a reported liver transplant, her family have since refused an autopsy.

Authorities said they responded to an emergency call at about 8am on Wednesday to One Columbus Place in New York and the Euro Trip actress was confirmed dead after emergency medical services arrived. In the weeks leading up to her death, Michelle had left her 800,000 Instagram followers concerned over her health due to her appearance.

But friends of the actress who worked on Gossip Girl with her have said while they didn’t always keep in touch, nobody had any idea about the true extent of her health. They say that members of the team have been communicating with one another as they couldn’t have ever predicted the loss of their colleague.

They claim that “no one knew the extent” of Michelle’s struggles. Speaking to The Sun, a source added: “I mean, her dying at 39? None of us could have predicted this. It’s just complete shock. And things were clearly worse than anyone could have known. It hurts because we were part of this thing that was so big but so intimate so the cast, crew, everyone really formed a bond.

“A lot of the crew was there all the seasons like I was. Michelle was hands down the most down-to-earth person.” It’s uncertain whether her family will ever discover the true cause of her death due to refusing an autopsy. A spokesperson for New York’s Office of Chief Medical Examiner explained that, under public health law, families can refuse an autopsy for religious reasons. Unless there is suspicion of foul play or a significant public health concern, the medical examiner respects such objections.

Although an external examination was performed on the actress – who is best known for her roles in Harriet the Spy, Gossip Girl, and Buffy The Vampire Slayer – no additional tests are expected. As a result, both the cause and manner of her death will be recorded as “undetermined” on her death certificate, Page Six reported.

Authorities said they responded to an emergency call at about 8am on Wednesday to One Columbus Place in New York and the Euro Trip actress was confirmed dead after emergency medical services arrived. ABC in America revealed that the star had died of “natural causes”. They wrote in a report on Wednesday: “Trachtenberg is believed to have died of natural causes and no foul play is suspected.”
