Boxing icon Tyson is a big cannabis smoker but has given up smoking cannabis as he prepares for a ring return against social media star Paul this summer
Mike Tyson has stayed true to his promise by giving up smoking cannabis before his fight against Jake Paul.
Heavyweight legend Tyson is preparing for a one-off return to the ring against YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul on July 20. The 57-year-old hasn’t fought since going eight rounds against fellow icon Roy Jones Jr. in November 2020. Tyson is seemingly taking his fight against Paul very seriously having abstained from sex and cannabis since the bout was announced last month.
“I’m living my life disciplined now, so I’m fight disciplined now. In probably six weeks, I haven’t gotten high or had sex. It’s just discipline, it’s doing what you hate to do but doing it like I love it. I hate not being able to not to smoke but I’m doing it like I love it. I hate not being able to sleep with my life but I’m doing it like I love it, because I want it I won’t do it,” Tyson told Forbes.
‘Iron Mike’ is known for his love of cannabis and was even high on the drug for one of his fights during his legendary career. Tyson vowed to give up smoking earlier this month when he told FOX News: “I don’t think I am going to smoke for this fight. I think I am going to be very irritable and nasty. Normally I do, but for this particular fight I think I’m going to go pretty raw and naked.”
Paul, who has a professional record of 9-1, has faced heavy criticism for opting to fight Tyson decades past his prime. Jones thinks despite Tyson being over 30 years older than his counterpart, the former heavyweight champion will cause big problems for Paul if he gets too close.
“Jake is not going to fight in close and Jake can’t stay away from him because Mike is going to close the gap real quick. I thought I could stay away from him and I couldn’t stay away from him, I know that I’m better at staying away from people than Jake is. That’s why Jake put the weight on,” Jones told Shane Mosley.
“He knows he isn’t going to be able to stay away from him, he is hoping that a bit of muscle will push him backwards and keep him off him. [Mike] is getting big enough to try and tie him up when he gets close and push him back right away. Jake doesn’t fight as well as going backwards as he does coming forward.”
