Millie Mackintosh reflects on her relationship with ex-husband Professor Green
Former Made in Chelsea star Millie Mackintosh has opened up about her relationship with Professor Green almost a decade on from their split.
Millie, now 35, met the rapper, now 41 – whose real name is Stephen Manderson – in 2011 and they went on to begin a romance. They got married two years later but their break up was announced in 2016. Their split was seemingly quite bitter at the time with both taking swipes at each other on social media in the wake of going their separate ways.
The former couple have both since moved on and had children with other people. Their relationship was brought up whilst Millie was a guest on the latest episode of Getting There podcast. She told its host Brogan Garrit-Smith that she had been “super young” when she married Professor Green in her early twenties and suggested that she had been “a mess” around that time.
Asked about going through a divorce in the public eye, guest Millie said: “I was incredibly anxious. I was barely eating. I was medicating with Xanax. I was … yeah, not well. And just … whenever the feelings would come up, I just remember just taking another pill. […] It was a really hard time.”
Both Millie and Professor Green have spoken about their own experiences with mental health over the years. And reflecting on their relationship, she said on the podcast: “I think we both were in our own struggles and I think we maybe both thought we could like fix each other. But we couldn’t. And ultimately, we both had our own struggles, and it just magnified it. And it was actually quite toxic.”
Discussing her twenties, Millie said: “It was a turbulent time. I was running away from my Made in Chelsea crowd. I just wanted to be in y’know a different place and it was my first serious relationship. And I truly didn’t know myself well enough to be in a relationship at that point.”
During the podcast, she also shared an update on the state of her relationship with Professor Green now. Millie revealed: “We’re in like a nice place now. We both moved on. We’ve both like started families. We’ve each sent other pictures of our kids. It feels like there’s no bad blood.”
Millie is now married to her former co-star Hugo Taylor, 38, who had worked alongside her on E4’s Made in Chelsea. The couple, who have been married since 2018, are parents to daughters Sienna, four, and Aurelia, three, together. Professor Green is a parent to son Slimane, three, from his relationship with actor Karima Adebibe, 39.
