A mum has been inundated with support after she was reduced to tears when no one ‘had the decency’ to turn up to the party she threw for her ‘struggling’ son’s seventh birthday

A mum has been left heartbroken and reduced to tears after throwing a party for her son – only to find no one turned up for him.

Any parents know that birthday parties can fill up your calendars quickly when your child goes to school. When it comes round to their big day, parents often want to make it as special as possible and make them feel loved.

One mum had sent out invitations to children in her son’s class, hoping that they would celebrate his seventh birthday with him. The mum took to TikTok and said that “not everybody understands Jamie”, so she was hoping the event would help him.

She adorned their home with party decorations and bought food, but was left disappointed that “no one had the decency” to show up for Jamie.

In a video shared on a babies, kids and maternity page called Happiest on TikTok, the hurt mum explained what happened. The video has raked in over four million views and over 31,000 comments.

The mum said: “Nobody showed up to my son’s birthday party. I have thrown this party for Jamie for his 7th birthday party. The problem is that not everybody understands Jamie and he is a bit different. He’s struggling making friends, and I was hoping this would be a breaking point and this party could sort of help him.”

As she tried to hold back her tears, the upset mother added: “I’m just disappointed that other mums don’t get how hard it is and they didn’t put a bit more effort into making sure that their kids do turn up. Because sadly, nobody has the decency to even call us and tells us that they can’t make it.”

Following the party, Jamie was in his bedroom crying as his dad attempted to make him feel better about the situation. “It’s just very, very, very upsetting,” Jamie’s mum added.

One individual said: “Well the mothers/fathers of these kids should be absolutely ashamed of themselves! Because I’m disgusted by them. Happy birthday Jamie.”

Another mum said: “I feel so deeply sorry for Jamie, and this is hurt a mamma heart. Sending him, and you, all my love. My now adult daughter also experienced this, she is a beautiful girl, and girls closed her out.”

“The parents should be ashamed,” said another. “This makes me so sad,” added one other. “This breaks my heart,” commented one other.

Another dad shared his experience and said: “I took my children to all birthdays they were invited for. One day, I took my daughter to a friend’s party and no one appeared, but this child felt so happy when he saw my daughter coming to his party.”

One other parents wrote: “I hope Jamie gets to realise its not him its them. The parents need to give their heads a wobble. Big hugs for Jamie.”

One other noted why people may have not turned up and said: “Times are changing, in my day our birthday parties where huge, please don’t think it’s because it’s your son, kids just don’t socialize anymore, sending love to you.”

A number of people in the comments said they wanted to send something to Jamie to make him feel special on his birthday.
