A mum has shared her viral Dyson cleaning hack to get older machines working like new once more and the results have left lots of people on social media surprised

Hoovering the house is something nobody likes doing, but it’s a chore that must be done.

Whether it be every day or every few days, it’s vital our vacuum cleaners are in the best possible condition to suck up as much dust and dirt as possible. For some Dyson offers the best value and quality for money, although after a while they can become somewhat less effective. Considering many Dyson hoovers cost hundreds of pounds, this is not ideal, especially if it means you have to go out and buy a new one. There may be something we can do, however, before forking out.

A mum has taken to Instagram to share her viral hack that brought her Dyson vacuum back from the dead, reports Tyla. With more than 9,000 likes on the social media platform, some users have claimed their Dyson “works like new” after following the advice. “The story of how I fixed my beloved vacuum simply by cleaning it,” Kait, who goes by acleanbee, said on her Instagram post. “Just because I know HOW to clean something, does not mean I am disciplined enough to do it regularly (clearly). Learn from my mistakes and never waste money on replacement parts until giving your ‘broken’ object a deep clean first!”

In the video, Kait demonstrated how her Dyson was not functioning as it should do, with the appliance making a strange sound when switched on. So, instead of downing tools, the mum simply decided she would give her hoover a fresh clean. “The solution might be as simple as cleaning the filter,” she said in the video. “Omg that brown water,” Kait added as she rinsed the filter under the tap.

“Second filter wasn’t as bad,” the mum admitted. “Decided the clean the rest.” Kait even used her son’s paint brush in one part of the video before showing before and after pictures, where you can clearly see the difference. After leaving the items out to dry overnight, she reassembled the next morning and the hoover was again working like new. “Now it is good as new again,” Kait said. “So often out ‘stuff’ isn’t broken, it just needs a deep clean.”

Dyson encourages those who own a vacuum to clean the filter once a month “to keep your machine running at maximum efficiency”. More than two million people have viewed Kait’s video and many have flocked to the comments to thank the mum. We were about to throw our Dyson OUT! Cleaned the top filter and boom, works like new,” one said. “This is so helpful. My Dyson has been doing this a lot lately! Thank you for sharing,” a second said. A third commented: “I had the same problem. I don’t know why but I decided to wash that filter and it worked fine. Been doing it ever since.”
