Katie Hulme, 25, shared what her recent trip to Butlin’s was like on TikTok. She said the state of the room she was handed was ‘absolutely grim’
At this time of year, many people take their children on festive trips away.
After all, the little ones want to embrace as much Christmas magic as possible, so it’s normal to dream of a little adventure. One mum recently took her family to Butlin’s in Minehead, but she didn’t think it was the best.
Katie Hulme, 25, opened up about the trip on TikTok, where she shared footage of the room she was handed. In the clip, you can see marks on the light switches that allegedly hadn’t been cleaned, hairs and dust along the skirting boards and what looks like mould in the corner of the shower.
All in all, it wasn’t quite full of the magic the family expected. Katie said the experience was “absolutely grim”, and claimed the resort only offered her a £25.00 voucher in compensation.
After she shared clips of what she deemed to be “unclean” accomodation, people were quick to comment. Over 1,000 people have viewed the video, and many shared their thoughts too.
One person said: “Ours hadn’t been cleaned when we arrived.” Another wrote: “Once you’ve been to a Butlin’s weekend you won’t want to take your kids to the same place.”
Others disagreed though and praised their experiences of staying at the popular resort. In fact, many had only good things to say. One chimed in with: “We did Christmas at Skegness and it was brilliant. The room was great.”
Someone else added: “I’ve been to Butlin’s, Minehead. The chalet has always been clean.”
Recently Butlin’s has had tens of thousands of guests visit its three resorts on a festive break over the last few weeks, and the feedback is reported to have been overwhelmingly positive. Guests have particularly praised the new Father Christmas Express Delivery experience.
It’s said Katie was offered to move accommodation once she had reported the cleanliness issues. According to the resort, staff then offered a goodwill resort spend voucher for the issues with the original accommodation unit.
When asked about Katie’s story, a Butlin’s spokesperson said: “We’re sorry and disappointed to see the cleanliness issues the guest experienced with their accommodation. This certainly isn’t the high standards we expect our guests to receive when they holiday with us.
“We moved the family to a different apartment and offered a gesture of goodwill which was accepted.”
