Eggs can be prepared in countless different ways, but the method most typically involves using a pan and hob.

However, TikTok creator and mum @jennifervalentyne reckons that the “easiest” approach doesn’t require either of these steps. Jennifer Valentyne, who describes herself as a “mum who loves cooking, cocktails and comedy”, regularly shares recipes on TikTok. In one clip, she stunned her followers with her simple egg recipe.

Rather than cooking the egg on the hob, Jennifer chooses to make her poached eggs in the microwave. All you require is a cup of water, a dash of vinegar and naturally, a microwave.

Vinegar is frequently hailed as a crucial component when creating poached eggs. This is because the acidity of vinegar speeds up the rate of denaturing and helps the poached egg keep its form.

Despite vinegar’s potent taste and aroma, a few drops are unlikely to change the flavour of your egg. Any type of vinegar can do the trick, but most chefs recommend using white vinegar because its clear colour means it won’t stain your egg.

Darker vinegars, such as balsamic vinegar, are typically avoided as they can turn your egg an unappetising shade of brown, reports the Express.

In her clip, Jennifer said: “The easiest poached egg you’ve ever made. Add one teaspoon of vinegar to a cup of cold water and then add your egg.” After adding vinegar and an egg to a cup of water, she popped it straight into the microwave. The TikTok mum instructed: “Microwave for one minute.”

Jennifer suggested that once the egg is taken out, it should be “perfect”. She continued: “I put it on my sprouted grain toast and add a little salt and pepper.” As she sliced into her egg, a golden, runny yolk spilled out. She exclaimed: “That’s beautiful, look at that, perfect.”

In the comments section, fellow TikTokers shared their views. @bethanyblueeyes87 commented: “This works! We love it! Now my son can add an egg to his cup of ramen.”

@lynnie285 noted: “You don’t need the vinegar! It works perfectly without it.” Some users suggested that a longer cooking time was required. @david1973 stated: “So, I tried it and it needed more than a minute for me but it worked.”

@emilyksp added: “Worked for me but had to go 20 to 30 seconds more! I even made more than one without starting over with cold water! Easiest poached egg I’ve ever made!”.
