A woman has slammed her ex-husband for sending a Valentine’s Day gift to her house a year after they divorced – and was even more horrified when she opened it up
Getting sent a Valentine’s Day gift from an ex is always awkward.
Valentine’s Day (February 14) is fast approaching, and those of us with a partner to spend it with will no doubt be buying gifts and making romantic plans over the next couple of days. But what would you do if a parcel arrived at your house that was sent by your ex?
Most of us wouldn’t expect it, but that’s the exact situation one woman found herself in. She explained that she split from her husband one year ago after catching him in an affair. The woman ultimately chose to end her marriage when she found out her spouse had gotten his affair partner pregnant.
In a post on Reddit, the woman said she currently lives in the house they once shared, but he has not set foot in it for a year. However, he often still gets mail delivered to his old address and only recently collected the last of his belongings.
So, when a package arrived at her doorstep, she thought nothing of opening it up. But she was left stunned when she saw there was a necklace inside – and her ex-husband’s name was on the shipping label. It turned out the package wasn’t meant for her at all but was a Valentine’s Day gift for her spouse’s new partner.
She wrote: “Yesterday I received a package, and without thinking, I opened it on my way in the door, thinking it was one of my many Amazon buys. Well, it’s a jewellery box with two rather cheap-looking necklaces inside, something I didn’t order. I double-checked the shipping label, and it’s my ex-husband’s name. This is clearly a Valentine’s present for the new girl, as the rhinestones are green, which I immediately recognised as her month’s birthstone.”
The woman said her ex-husband had never ordered from the company while they were together, so she believes he put her address down on purpose, as the company wouldn’t have had her address on file already. She’s now considering just throwing the package away, but she does feel “guilty” about not giving someone “something they paid for”.
Commenters on the post, however, urged the woman to just bin the gift. Many argued her former spouse was “deliberately sending” her things to “mess with her”, so he shouldn’t be surprised when she retaliates.
One person said: “He’s deliberately sending things to your address to mess with you. Throw it away and block his number. You deserve peace.” Another added: “The universe literally hand-delivered you some petty justice, and you’re debating it? Girl, that package tripped and fell into the trash. Oops.”
