A mum has gone viral after showing off her effortless hack to keep your toastie maker spotless, and prevent those stubborn-to-clean burnt scraps of food off your appliance

Nothing beats a toasted sandwich for lunch, but cleaning the appliance can be a nightmare.

Whether you like to keep it simple with just cheese and ham or get creative by making a pepperoni pizza dupe – toastie makers are a kitchen staple in many households. However, wiping off burnt pieces of melted cheese, molten bean juice or spills of tomato puree is no easy feat – until now… Casey Major Bunce, aka Major Mum Hacks, has built up an impressive presence online – with a staggering 232,000 followers on TikTok alone – thanks to her handy tips and tricks. When it comes to toastie makers, she has a genius method that has left her two-year-old appliance looking brand new.

In a now-viral video, Casey demonstrates how she lines her toastie maker with baking paper before adding in her sandwiches and closing the lid. “Toastie makers are a nightmare to clean, so this hack will save you from doing that,” she said. “It keeps all the juices inside the baking paper. There isn’t a risk of fire because there’s no flame, unlike a toaster.” Hundreds of impressed viewers flocked to the comments section to share their thoughts, with many tagging their friends and family to see the hack. “This is the best hack,” one user raved. “It also works in an air fryer as long as its tucked in.”

Another agreed, commenting: “Genius! so many people saying [it’s] waste of paper. I’d re-use. life too short for cleaning!” A third added: “Oh my god, life saver. My toastie machine just destroys my toastie. Hopefully this works,” while a fourth penned: “I chucked mine but I’m going to buy a new one now, great hack, thanks.”

However, many viewers pointed out the hack could prevent your toastie getting really crispy and well-done. “Looks half cooked though and bet it doesn’t taste as good as the way it should be made with butter on the outside getting it nice and crisp,” one person said. Another argued: “I like my toastie to look toasted. Yes its lovely and clean but thats not its job. Also you just been wasting time and money make a toastie thats not toasted,” while a third wrote: “My toastie maker is older than yours and looks the same and I don’t use paper lol I just clean it as soon as it cools down.”
