A mum whose twins at the same life-threatening condition as Jesy Nelson’s spoke about her experience on TikTok as she shared a health warning to anyone who was going through the same
Former Little Mix star Jesy Nelson emotionally revealed to fans this week that she is having complications with her pregnancy.
The 33-year-old from Romford, took to Instagram with her partner Zion Foster to explain she is at risk of losing one or both of her unborn twins due to a rare condition.
Revealing she is having Mono/Di twins, ex-Little Mix star Jesy tearfully told fans that there can be ‘lots of complications’ involved. She also said she could lose both babies, and is being “monitored very closely”.
Acording to the NHS, Mono/Di is short for Monochorionic Diamniotic (MCDA). The condition means the babies share a placenta but they are each in their own sacs.
In light of the news, an unearthed video of a mother who also carried Mono/Di twins has emerged on TikTok as she shared her own experience.
The mum, named Jessie is known as @6kids.under12 on the site. She shared the video about her pregnancy back in 2023, telling her followers that she found out she was pregnant with Mono Mono twins at around 10 weeks.
She then said at 12 weeks, she went for an ultrasound and medics found the membrane that was separating her babies, so they were then considered Mono/Di twins.
Despite calling it a “good pregnancy”, Jessie said she had some complications with blood pressure and said doctors had to ‘switch up her medicine a lot of times’.
Jessie said she was sharing her pregnancy journey in the hope that it would ‘help someone’. She said: “I know that if you’re not high-risk, you do not go to MFM (maternal-fetal medicine), so you don’t get many ultrasounds. So if you have had multiple C-sections, I highly recommend that you ask your doctor to check you for accreta.”
The mum said she was diagnosed with previa (a problem during pregnancy when the placenta completely or partially covers the opening of the uterus). Then she went back after a few weeks and they diagnosed her with accreta.
Accreta is a serious pregnancy condition that occurs when the placenta grows too deeply into the uterine wall. Usually, the placenta detaches from the uterine wall after childbirth. However, with placenta accreta, part or all of the placenta remains attached. This can cause severe blood loss after delivery.
After being diagnosed with accreta, Jessie admitted it was “super scary”. She said: “They’re telling me all these ifs… they’re saying I’m gonna have to have a hysterectomy. I’m going to have to be put asleep, won’t get to see my twins born, and I could bleed out and I’ll need multiple blood transfusions and be in ICU. I am literally terrified.”
The mum, who was 20 weeks pregnant at the time, added: “I really hope that this thing is turned around very quickly and that things don’t get worse.”
She said doctors told her that her babies could come at 24 weeks if they needed to.
Jessie warned: “So make sure you get checked for this, because if it doesn’t get caught soon enough it could kill you, it’s life-threatening, and my doctor really scared me with this yesterday and I couldn’t sleep last night.”
The mum thankfully later told followers that her identical twin girls were born at 29 weeks and after a stint in ICU they were both able to come home and join her other four children.
