Netflix star Manuel Masalva is best known for his role in Narcos: Mexico. The 43-year-old actor has been sent into a medically induced coma after a deadly bacterial infection
Manuel Masalva, who is best known for his role in Netflix’s Narcos: Mexico, has been placed in a medically induced coma following a severe bacterial infection. The 43-year-old actor fell ill while on holiday and had to be rushed to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Doctors have placed him on a course of strong antibiotics as he undergoes intensive treatment.
Close friend and fellow actor Mario Morán spoke out about Manuel’s deteriorating health in a video posted on April 2. In the TikTok clip (@mariomoran_), which has amassed 1.5 million views, Mario confirmed the gravity of the situation.
“My brother is fighting for his life away from home,” he stated. “I want to ask for your support in this difficult moment. He was the victim of a very aggressive bacterium while he was on vacation, and this led him to be in an induced coma.”
To help cover the mounting medical expenses, a GoFundMe campaign was launched. The fundraiser, which Mario shared, has already surpassed its $50,000 goal, reaching $50,415. While Manuel’s specific diagnosis remains undisclosed, his last known location was the Philippines, according to a post he shared with his 160,000 Instagram followers two weeks ago.
On April 2, an update was posted on the GoFundMe page, expressing gratitude to those who had donated and sharing the latest on Manuel’s condition.
“Thank you very much to all those who have donated so far; your generosity and support are fundamental in these difficult times for Manuel and his loved ones,” the statement read.
Manuel is still delicate, but the bacteria has already been detected, he is on antibiotics, and we are waiting for an improvement to begin.”
Since the fundraiser was launched on April 1, fans of the Mexican actor have flooded his Instagram with messages of encouragement. One supporter wrote, “My prayers for your health. I truly hope you can better from this.”
Another commented: “Get well soon, good vibes and may God bless you.”
“Sending you so much love and sending your family so much strength. Praying you have a speedy recovery,” shared another fan. “Manuel, get well soon – we’re all waiting for your return,” someone else added.
While another echoed: “Wishing you all the best and a fast recovery so you can get back to work and get back on our TV screens soon.”
