A heartbroken mum has issued a stark message to parents who RSVP to attend a child’s birthday party but fail to show up. The woman explained how nine out of 10 people sent an RSVP confirmation about attending her daughter’s fifth birthday party but “no showed” on the day.

She shared how she watched on as her daughter’s heart shattered when she came to realise nobody was showing up to celebrate her special day. Taking to Reddit, she said: “Parents, and future parents, if you RSVP to a child’s party. Show the f*** up. If you cannot, communicate you are unable to make it. Being asked for an hour straight ‘when are my friends showing up?’, ‘Oh there’s a white car! Is my friend in there?’. Is f***ing heartbreaking.

“I have seen sad stories like this before and I never thought it could happen to us. It did. It’s horrible. I just ask that anyone reading this will remember this thread, and be better.”

Thankfully, the mum’s friends made an appearance and showered the young girl in attention – but she couldn’t help but notice there was nobody her age at the party.

She added: “Nine out of the 10 parents didn’t even let us know they couldn’t make it! Honestly this is more than mildly infuriating. But oh well.

“She was surrounded by adults who love her, and everyone was aware of what went wrong so she was smothered with love and affection to try and replace any memories of friends not showing up with that of the adults in her life appreciating and loving her!

“We did our best. She’s doing better than I am if I am being honest.”

Commenting on her post, one heartbroken user said: “This happened to my husband when he was a kid. He still doesn’t like even the idea of having a birthday party.

“I never even met these parents but I’m mad at them 30+ years later because that shit stays with you forever. “

Another user added: “My daughter doesn’t have a ton of friends, and her birthday is January 1st so I’m always terrified this will happen.

“I usually give her a choice of birthday party, or a special day (salon, nails, a shopping day). She’s always chose to pamper herself. I’m so sorry she had to go through this.”

A third user said: “This happened to me on my 30th birthday last year. Had my friends RSVP, then slowly started getting the texts an hour before the party saying they weren’t coming.

“I just cried at the table of food sat for 20 people. Three friends came and I tried to be happy for their sake, but I vowed to never have another birthday party ever again.”

One more user added: “A bunch of friends and family did this to my daughter last year.

“Her birthday is in winter so I rented a hall and made tons of food. So now I’m done. She can pick one friend and I’m taking them for an experience instead.”
