Cleaning shower doors can be a tricky task, as they often become coated in a stubborn layer of soap scum – a sticky residue left behind by body wash and shampoo. This is made even worse when soap scum reacts with another common stain, limescale, which forms from hard water minerals and clings tightly to glass surfaces.

Simply scrubbing your shower screen won’t shift these types of stains, but the experts at Elegant Showers have revealed a simple product that can clean glass in just minutes. They shared: “Sponges like those made from melamine foam gently lift grime without scratching the glass. They can tackle soap scum buildup.”

Melamine sponges, also known as magic erasers, are the best tool for cleaning shower screens. They’re made from an abrasive material that can reach into crevices that ordinary sponges can’t.

These sponges work like sandpaper, lifting and breaking down greasy soap scum and thick limescale without damaging or scratching the glass.

They can remove even the toughest stains on shower glass without the need for chemical cleaners, but it can also be used in combination with white vinegar, reports the Express.

White vinegar contains acetic acid, which breaks down the minerals in limescale and softens hard soap scum, making it much easier and quicker to clean.

It also boasts natural antibacterial properties, so it can tackle those mouldy spots in your shower corners without the need for pricey chemical products.

Here’s how to banish stubborn stains on shower glass

Start by mixing equal parts of white vinegar and warm water in an empty spray bottle. You can typically find these bottles in the gardening section of most supermarkets.

Next, spritz a generous amount of the solution onto your shower door.

Let it sit for about five minutes to allow the vinegar to work its magic on the grime.

After the time has elapsed, use a melamine foam sponge to gently scrub the shower glass.

Use a circular motion, and you’ll see the stains start to disappear.

You can find Magic Erasers in the cleaning aisle of most supermarkets, or at hardware stores and online retailers like Amazon.

Once your shower glass is gleaming, rinse it off with the shower head to remove any leftover soap, then dry it with a clean cloth.

Your shower door should now be sparkling clean, and the whole process should only take around 10 minutes.
