Charnock Richard goalkeeper Ryan Hamer scored a superb goal in the North West Counties, and his midweek heroics saw him go viral on social media
Goalkeeper Ryan Hamer was the unlikely hero for Charnock Richard as his staggering acrobatic effort earned his side a point in a 2-2 draw with FC St Helens. The shot-stopper made his way up for a corner deep into stoppage time as the Lancashire club chased an equaliser.
Charnock trailed 2-1 going into added time against the Stripes, who looked set to bolster their playoff hopes with a win. The left-footed inswinging corner fell to captain Nick Nickeas at the back-post, who tried a side-footed volley, but his effort bounced into the ground before it was headed away.
However, it was only partially cleared and Hamer superbly connected with a left-footed volley past Joe Mason and the FC St Helens defenders on the line.

The effort sparked wild scenes with Hamer racing away, kneesliding next to the home dugout as they piled on in celebration.
The drama was captured superbly by their media team, accompanied by a goal graphic of the goalkeeper. They tweeted: “Owkwenbdowkwnw (sic) RYAN HAMERRRRRRR WHAT THE… I DON’T BELIEVE WHAT I’VE JUST SEENNNN! OVERHEAD KICK FROM RYAN HAMER! OVERHEAD KICK FROM RYAN HAMER!”
At full-time, they added: “FULL TIME | Charnock Richard 2-2 FC St Helens. The most ridiculous last minute stoppage time equaliser from Ryan Hamer saves a point at the death for Charnock Richard.”
The moment was brilliantly captured by local sports videographer MM Productions, tweeting the goal, he said: “OH. MY. F******. WORD!!
“Final minute of added time, trailing 1-2 at home to @fcsthelens , and @CharnockFC keeper @Ryan434809531 goes and…well..no words, just no words!
“Enjoy, again and again, potentially one of the best goals you’ll ever see!”
Charnock Richard play in the 10th tier of English football in the North West Counties Premier Division. The point created a five-point buffer from the bottom two relegation spots in an unlikely twist heading into the dying embers.
Hamer, who scooped the club’s Managers Player of the Year award in April, joins an elite group of goalkeepers to find themselves on the scoresheet.
He isn’t the only one to do so in Merseyside either after Calvin Hare earned an FA Cup replay for Northern Premier League West side Prescot Cables against Hyde United.
