An unreleased song by Oasis is currently up for auction, and fans are banding together to try and buy it. The track in question is believed to have been written by Andy Bell, with vocal work from Liam Gallagher. While the song did not feature on any of Oasis’ albums, it was recorded by the Wonderwall hitmakers during sessions for their sixth studio album.

The song Way of the World was recorded during the making of Don’t Believe the Truth, which released in 2005. Way of the World is believed to have never been heard before, and is currently listed on the auction site Propstoreauction for a starting price of £1,500.

Fans are now banding together to make a bid for the CD, with a Crowdfund site established by members of the r/Oasis Reddit page.

The Crowdfund page has confirmed they wish to raise £6,000 total for the bid and will donate any excess funds to charity should they hit their target.

A description from the fundraiser site reads: “A CD featuring a fully mixed recording of the unheard track ‘Way of the World’ by Oasis.

“This track, which features Liam Gallagher on vocals, was written by Andy Bell and recorded around the time of Oasis’ sixth studio album, Don’t Believe the Truth, released in 2005.

“The disc is believed to be the only physical copy of the song, and it was originally found in a flight case acquired from an Oasis storage lock-up sale.

“This is an incredibly rare opportunity to obtain a special track that was never released to the public. The front cover of the sleeve has ‘Way O.T.W’ handwritten in black marker and features the Ignition Records logo.”

Fans were keen to put together a group fundraiser, with some sharing they would be keen to donate to the auction bid. One fan wrote: “123K members in this subreddit. At .50-1 each we could easily do it mates.”

Though some fans were keen to contribute, others made it clear the copyright was still retained by Andy Bell, the songwriter, and that the track could not be released without his permission.

One person wrote: “The listing specifically says sold without copyright, Andy Bell holds the publishing since the song has been officially released and if this version was recorded by the label rather than privately then they hold the performance rights.

“The most you could legally do with it is share it without profit at the risk of either Andy Bell or Big Brother coming after you for infringement.”

Bell would re-record the song and release it on his 2022 album, Flicker. Alongside the Way of the World CD in the auction are guitars used by Noel Gallagher on stage, and handwritten lyrics from several Oasis B-side songs.
