Oscar Piastri decided to take a trip to Jeremy Clarkson’s farm during the two-week F1 break ahead of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, with the Aussie failing miserably at one of the tasks
Oscar Piastri’s mum has teased the Formula One driver over his failed tractor-reversing which left Jeremy Clarkson in stitches.
With F1 taking a two-week break ahead of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Piastri opted for a different change of pace than the majority of his fellow drivers. The McLaren star enjoyed a surprise visit to ‘Diddly Squat’ farm – owned by Clarkson and made popular by the Amazon Prime series Clarkson’s Farm.
Piastri, 23, posed with Top Gear icon Clarkson and his now-famous assistant Kaleb Cooper for photos. The two-time Grand Prix winner also tried his hand at some agricultural activities – among which was reversing a tractor – with less than stellar results.
In a hilarious clip shared on X, Clarkson is heard saying: “Hello, I’m Jeremy Clarkson and behind me in that tractor – you can see it there – is Oscar. And we wanted to see if he could reverse that trailer into that slot in the barn.
“How long has he been doing it? 40 minutes?”. Cooper then chimed in: “He’s done 40 minutes now. I thought you said he was a driver?”
Clarkson let out a chuckle before continuing: “Your tractor is going to run out of diesel before he’s… I mean look at… come on Oscar! No… he’s c***ed that up. Even I can see in the reverse shot that he’s c***ed it up.”
Even Piastri’s mother joined in on the light-hearted ribbing, teasing her son on social media by commenting: “Clarkson’s Farm is grandad’s favourite show Osc. He will be so excited to watch this ep!! (we just won’t tell him about your trailer-backing skills – or lack thereof).”
Grand Tour presenter Clarkson, meanwhile, sparked outrage amongst a section of F1 fans this week by claiming Lewis Hamilton was ‘past his prime’, while hailing Max Verstappen as potentially the best driver in the sport’s history.
“We learned two important things during last weekend’s Grand Prix in Brazil,” Clarkson wrote in his column for The Sun. “Well, three, if you count Lance Stroll, who crashed his freshly repaired car on the formation lap. And then drove it into a gravel tap.
“First of all, Max Verstappen is one of the all-time greats. He may even be the greatest driver we’ve ever seen. And second, Lewis Hamilton is past his prime. He blamed his car for his tail-end qualifying session but his team-mate, George Russell, was on the front row.
“Of course, it’s possible that because Lewis is moving to Ferrari next year, the team are filling his fuel tank with lemon barley water instead of petrol. But that seems unlikely. It’s far more probable that he’s now too old.”
