Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has been ordered to remain in federal custody until his trial date, which is set to take place on the same day as the Met Gala in 2025

P Diddy’s trial is set to commence on the biggest day in Hollywood. The rapper, who was arrested on September 16 and charged with sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution – allegations he “categorically denies” – is poised to swap the Met Gala’s red carpet for iron bars.

The first Monday of May coincides with the launch of the Vogue event at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The theme for 2025 is Superfine: Tailoring Black style and according to Vogue, the Costume Institute show will “take the Black dandy as its subject”.

The annual Met Gala event will “examine the importance of clothing and style to the formation of Black identities in the Atlantic diaspora. Co-chairs for next year’s event include Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky and Pharrell Williams, with NBA star LeBron James as honorary chair.

Diddy, real name Sean Combs, has been held at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Centre since September 17. A judge recently denied the rapper’s request for bail for a third time and Combs has been ordered to remain in custody until May 5, the star’s trial date and the most important night in the fashion calendar.

P Diddy has attended the prestigious event many times in the past, but in 2024 the musician was reportedly removed from the guest list due to federal investigation. A source spoke to National Enquirer about the move at the time.

“Now he finds himself grappling not only with the preservation of his reputation but also with the loss of his standing within an industry that has unequivocally distanced itself from him,” they explained.

P Diddy scooped up the Menswear Designer of the Year award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 2004, having been nominated once before in 2000. What might come as a surprise to many is that the ‘I’ll Be Missing You’ chart-topper kicked off his own clothing line Sean John way back in 1998.
