Everton have lost their opening two matches of the Premier League season by an aggregate score of 7-0, and bookies Paddy Power have seen enough to settle bets on them going down

Bookies Paddy Power have already seen enough of Everton this season to pay out on them being relegated – just two games into the campaign.

After a 3-0 humbling at home to Brighton on the opening weekend of the season, the Toffees followed that up with a dire 4-0 loss at Tottenham on Saturday afternoon, with the result leaving them rock bottom of the table with a minus seven goal difference.

That prompted the bookmaker to take to their X account and tweet: “”Early payout. After today’s hammering, we thought we’d save everyone the bother of waiting… So, we’ve paid out early on EVERTON TO BE RELEGATED! SINGLES & MULTIPLES. ONLINE & RETAIL. NO MAX STAKE. Settlements will be processed shortly.”

The PR move from the firm comes at a dire time for the Merseyside club, who remain in limbo off the field after last season’s PSR points deductions and the ongoing uncertainty surrounding a takeover.

Manager Sean Dyche insists they will turn their poor form around, but admits it is a tricky task given the ongoing uncertainties. “We changed the storyline last season, then in the summer we sell big players,” he said.

“You’re trying to build a squad and the challenge starts again. It’s a never-ending challenge at Everton Football Club. There’s so many stories, so much noise every day and it’s not very often about the football.”

The Blues face League Two side Doncaster Rovers at Goodison Park in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, before Bournemouth come calling in the Premier League next weekend.

Defender James Tarkowski is hopeful those fixtures will prove to be the perfect games to turn the club’s form around.

“We’ve not been good enough so far, because to concede seven and not score is not performing,” he said after the Tottenham loss, which featured a farcical error from goalkeeper Jordan Pickford to allow Son Heung-min to score the first of his brace.

“But it’s a good week for us (to change things) – a cup game at home and then going into Bournemouth. Hopefully, we get three points there and then we go into the international break with a bit of positivity and get a few faces back.”
