A plane passenger pulled out a gun after take-off and started threatening to kill others on the flight – cabin crew members were forced to subdue him as the plane was turned around

Honduras: Passenger ‘pulls out gun’ on flight and ‘threatens to kill passengers’

Shocking footage shows what happened after a passenger pulled out a gun on a flight before threatening to kill people.

The horrifying incident occurred just minutes after the plane had taken off. Thankfully, members of the cabin crew were able to overpower the passenger before anyone was harmed.

Following the chaos, the captain of the plane turned the aircraft around and returned to Toncontín International Airport in Tegucigalpa – the capital city of Honduras. The flight was meant to travel to Roatán in Honduras on Thursday. National Police officers boarded the aircraft after it landed back at the airport safely. The suspect was promptly arrested, and no injuries were reported.

Passengers had to disembark the ATR 72 to take another flight to the island resort of Roatán. It is unclear how the unnamed man managed to get the firearm inside the aircraft, and the airline has not been named. The two that operate the route with ATR 72 planes, CM Airlines and TagAirlines, are yet to release a statement on the incident.

One local said: “They must have very ineffective passenger screening going on at that airport, very dangerous if it happened during the flight.” Another asked: “How did he get onboard with a firearm in the first place?”

It comes as rescue crews continue to search for a plane that vanished from flight radar while on its way to Nome in Alaska. A desperate search was launched for the Bering Air flight from Unalakleet to Nome after it failed to land as scheduled at 4pm on Thursday. The aircraft was carrying nine passengers and a pilot.

The Nome Volunteer Fire Department said it was conducting an “active ground search” from Nome to White Mountain. It said in a statement: “We are currently doing an active ground search from Nome and from White Mountain and have as much up to date information on the event as possible.

“Due to weather and visibility, we are limited on air search at the current time. National Guard and Coast Guard and Troopers have been notified and are active in the search. Norton Sound Health Corporation is standing by.”
