Callan Rydz suffered a first round defeat to Florian Hempel in Hungary – and the darts star has reacted to the loss on social media

Darts star Callan Rydz has written a brutally honest message after suffering a heartbreaking defeat in the Hungarian Darts Trophy.

The 26-year-old faced off against Florian Hempel in the first round as he looked to seal the £30k jackpot. Rydz made a strong start in Budapest, building up a commanding 5-2 lead, but failed to get the win over the line as Hempel fought back into the match.

The German won four consecutive legs to earn a 6-5 victory, having been on the cusp of defeat. However, Rydz was left immensely frustrated after letting the win slip through his fingers to continue his recent run of bad luck.

It has been a tough few days for Rydz, who was on the wrong end of another narrow defeat to Chris Dobey at Players Championship 20 on Tuesday before suffering a first round loss to William O’Connor the following day. These results seem to have taken a toll on Rydz, who quickly opened up about his struggles on the oche and difficulty dealing with social media backlash.

“Not sure I can keep playing and suffering, I enjoy my time away from from darts too much to suffer like this, bottling games all the time,” Rydz wrote on Instagram.

“Bah, it’s a lonely f****** place but f*** me, when you lose the s*** you get is not good for anyone. Am just trying to earn a living but am not sure it’s worth bothering fighting for…If you have my number and need me, text me, I won’t be on any social media at all for a long time.”

Rydz averaged 88.60 against Hempel and was ultimately left despondent in Hungary, biting his shirt and punching his darts case as he exited the stage.

As Hempel celebrated at the end of the match, the commentary team described Rydz’s reaction: “[Hempel] was 5-2 down against Callan Rydz, who almost can’t look him in the eye. He is absolutely devastated, just look at him, biting the shirt, furious with himself.”

The World No.38 will receive £1,250 after losing his first round match in Hungary but will soon have another opportunity to get back to winning ways. The Players Championship 22 event will be held in Leicester on Tuesday, with the PDC also returning to the Mattioli Arena the next day.
