A Ninja Crispi owner shared a video of the inside of her air fryer mid-way through cooking – and people are just realising what happens when you shut the drawer

People are just discovering what goes on inside their air fryers when they cook food – and they’re stunned.

From reheating leftovers and crisping up frozen food to baking cakes and cooking full roast dinners, the air fryer is a versatile gadget. The handy device, which comes in all different shapes and sizes, is often presented as an alternative to energy-guzzling ovens.

Not to mention, they speed up the cooking process and generally provide a healthier way of cooking many of your favourite foods. But if you just throw your food in and walk away as it cooks, you might not have realised what goes on inside the air fryer basket.

After all, air fryers tend to have an automatic pause feature that temporarily stops the cooking process while you open it to check on your food’s progress.

However, Ninja’s Crispi device comes with a glass window on the front, meaning users can actually watch their meals being cooked. TikTok user @aligroholski shared a video of the air fryer in action, alongside the caption: “That was super invasive.”

The clip, which has been viewed more than 9.3 million times, showed a spring roll hovering and spinning as it cooked. She added: “Watching the inside of an air fryer feels illegal.”

As the name suggests, air fryers are powered by air, with a heating element near the top of the fryer emitting heat into the air in the cooking chamber while a fan circulates the heated air rapidly around it.

But it seems many people in the comments section of Ali’s video had no idea what the cooking process would look like. One commented: “No way my food is just in there breakdancing.”

Another wrote: “THEY SPIN?” while a third said: “That’s why my damn cheese never stays on.” Not everyone was convinced, however, with another user writing: “That does not happen in mine cause when I open it the food is in the exact same position no matter how small the food is.”
