WD-40 can be quite useful for a range of household tasks, from lubricating hinges to preventing rust on metal surfaces. Now have you ever wondered what it actually stands for?

Most homes will have a can of WD-40 knocking about in the cupboard.

It can be useful for a range of tasks at home, whether it’s lubricating hinges and wheels, or even preventing rust on tools, as well as metal surfaces. The handy product is even useful for cleaning a greasy engine, grime off exhausts and more.

Now while it’s probably sitting in your drawers somewhere, have you ever wondered what the product stands for? Well it seems as though people on TikTok are “today years old” after learning the meaning of WD-40.

Posting to his 117,000 followers, user @enterviewteev revealed he only just learned what it means. He said in his caption: “I bet over 90% of my followers had no idea,” as he claimed he was “today years old” after discovering what the “WD” stands for.

In his informative clip, he added: “Please don’t come in the comment section for this video and act like you already knew this. I’ll be doing videos.

“A lot of y’all be acting like some of the videos I’m doing be common knowledge when all actually you guys are going on Google looking the info up and they come back to the comment section like it’s common knowledge like you something you already knew.

“And for this video I know a lot of you didn’t know about this. WD40. The WD and WD-40 stands for water dispersal. Who knew that the WD and WD-40 stood for water dispersal? Nobody even thinks about those academics when they using WD-40.”

He continued by telling fans he only just found out. The user added: “I never even, never ever thought about WD-40. What does WD stand for? We don’t think about those things. So do not comment in comments and act like you’ve been doing that.

“Some people might have known. Like if you are mechanic or something you might have known. But don’t come here as a hairdresser say you already knew what WD40 was, or a cleric or assistant or something like saying you already knew what this would stand for.

“The WD and WD-40 stands for water dispersal. Appreciate y’all. Have a good day. Salute.” It seems many people only just found out too after the post garnered dozens of likes and comments. One said: “Didn’t know that all these years, never even thought about it.”

Another admitted: “Can’t say I knew that!” While a third posted: “Wow never knew that.” Then someone else commented: “Use it a lot, didn’t know that. Taught me something.” Others, however, claimed to know since they were young.
