Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has reportedly split from wife Cristina Serra with those close to the couple hinting that the relentless work rate of the manager was a factor
Those close to Pep Guardiola claim he and his wife, Cristina Serra, have split because his “workaholic” lifestyle has “taken its toll”.
Reports claim the Manchester City boss and his partner have gone their separate ways after 30 years, 10 of those as husband and wife. No reason has been given for the separation with Guardiola and his wife living apart for a number of years.
Guardiola is in the midst of the longest managerial spell of his career and has just signed on to remain in Manchester for another two years. Serra decided to leave the UK in 2019 to help oversee the fashion company owned by her family, Serra Claret, which stocks several brands the City manager is often seen wearing.
The intensity of the City boss has long been one of his trademarks and the Catalan is all in with his work – and a friend claimed that may have eventually contributed to the split.
One friend close of Guardiola told the Daily Mail: “I think they have grown apart. She left Manchester about five years ago to return to Barcelona. That has taken its toll. He is a total workaholic and not being involved in their family fashion business together may have affected their relationship too.”
Another source swiftly rejected any allegations of infidelity and claimed: “They have parted on friendly terms and I really don’t think there is someone else involved.”
Guardiola was seen on Tuesday for the first time since the news as City prepare to play Brentford in west London. The 53-year-old was wearing his wedding ring amid reports from Spain of his split from Serra.
Friends of the pair have said their situation is “friendly and cordial” and Guardiola and Serra spent Christmas together with their children Maria, 24, Marius, 22, and Valentina, 17.
Serra was in Istanbul in June 2023 to congratulate her husband after City beat Inter Milan to land the Champions League, which helped seal a famous Treble. They were also pictured together attending Wimbledon at the All England Club in July. Guardiola had often spoken glowingly about his wife. In January of last year he said: “My wife is the best in the world at many things, especially fashion.”
