If you’re looking to lose weight but don’t want to sign up to a gym or pay for expensive equipment to work out with, then this one simple habit might help you on your way

Shifting that stubborn belly fat might not be quite as complicated as you think.

Losing weight can feel like a mammoth uphill battle, with temptation lurking around every corner and the scales often uncooperative despite our best efforts at healthy eating and dedicated exercise.

Thankfully, there’s hope yet, according to one fitness guru who says an easy habit that many of us overlook could jump-start your slim-down mission.

Personal trainer Chris Gagliardi has pinpointed walking as a simple, cost-effective trick for anyone yearning to reduce their waistline. According to this American Council on Exercise (ACE) certified pro, focusing on visceral fat – the sneaky stuff skulking around your organs – is the secret weapon to overall body slimming, as reported by Prevention.

For those without an elaborate fitness regime, walking is an excellent “good entry point” to getting active, requiring zilch in terms of cash splashed out on gym sign-ups or fancy gear. And don’t just take his word for it; scientific evidence is strutting in support of a stroll.

A study published in the Journal of Exercise Nutrition and Biochemistry revealed that overweight women who took 50-70 minute strides three times a week over a 12-week period shredded more visceral fat than non-walkers. Gagliardi advised: “Even if your starting point is a one-minute walk, if that’s more than what you’ve been doing, there’s health benefits to that. Starting slow and working your way up is better than overdoing it and giving up.”

The expert suggested committing to a brisk 10-minute stroll post-dinner, gradually extending the duration as you grow accustomed to daily activity.
