Pringles fans have offered their thoughts on what they think the Super Mario mystery flavour is – with some suggesting the taste is likely to be related to the plumber character’s Italian nationality

A month after hitting supermarket shelves, crisp lovers still can’t fathom the true identity of the latest Pringles release.

The snack giant introduced a limited edition ‘Mystery Flavour’ under Super Mario branding at the end of 2024, with thoughts on its true flavour dividing fans ever since. A snap of the sliver tube was shared to Reddit on Wednesday (February 5) prompting a new debate amongst shoppers about the crisps’ taste.

Okay, so what flavour actually are these?” penned a user of the social media platform. Hundreds of Brits responded with their take, one of whom declared: “Apparently its pizza flavour. Pringles haven’t said, but loads of people said it tastes like pizza.”

A second shared: “Grabbed a tin the other day, tastes like Paprika and Texas BBQ at the start then gets really spicy, it’s alright if you like spicy things.” A third person remains confused: “I bought these and at first me and the kids thought prawn but then the spice kicked in and we couldn’t place the flavour for toffee.”

A fourth contemplated: “They are sort of tomatoey, with a little tingle. Probably pizza/pasta if you had to put it in a category.” Whilst a fifth suggested: “Looking at the ingredients list it’s like the pepperoni pizza flavour. It has paprika and cheese so that’s my best guess.”

And a sixth simply slammed: “By far the worst flavour yet.” Foodies have until May to reach their conclusions, meanwhile.

Launching the snack, Pringles said: “Pringles, the leading gaming snack, has today launched a new, nostalgia-powered campaign rooted in 90s gaming culture, to celebrate its partnership with 40 year old gaming icon Super Mario.

“The partnership will see Super Mario, Luigi and friends appearing on Pringles’ iconic tubes including Original, Salt & Vinegar, Texas BBQ and Sour Cream & Onion. The tubes will be available across all major supermarkets from mid-January until May.

“Pringles will also launch a new, limited-edition ‘mystery flavour’ in a distinctive silver can featuring one of the Super Mario universe’s signature mystery blocks, punctuated with a question mark. Fans able to uncover the mystery by correctly identifying the flavour will have the chance to win a trip to New York City.”

Rebecca Worthington, Pringles Marketing Lead UKI, added: “We know that Pringles is a leading snack brand of choice for gamers, and with 90s nostalgia firmly back in fashion this year, we’re partnering with the most enduring gaming franchise, Super Mario, to remind a generation of gamers of those magical early experiences which grew into a lifelong passion.”

She continued: “Just as Super Mario games are packed with surprises, hidden features and the thrill of discovery, we’re inviting gamers to try to guess our mystery flavour to be in with a chance to win a trip to New York City. With this collaboration, Pringles continues to cement its position as a go-to snack for gamers.”
