Ex-England footballer Peter Crouch is credited with making popular the game of ‘Eggy Boff’ – but what began as a game of laughs in the villa soon led to animosity

A Love Island couple have fallen foul of a game loved by former footballer Peter Crouch. The ex-England goalie is credited with popularising a silly game and giving it an even sillier name – and it made it to the villa this weekend.

The rules of Eggy Boff are simple – and involve one person being ignored by all their friends for a laugh. Peter has apparently pranked many mates with it over the years, including during actual games of football.

But this weekend, he said he had “never been so proud” to see the game introduced at the villa. It caused a storm, however, when Ciaran Davies ended up snubbing his partner Nicole Samuel.

He refused to speak to her so he did not lose the game, but it hurt her feelings and she felt humiliated. The couple later argued about it and Ciaran insisted on sleeping outside, despite them having just admitted they felt “closed off” with one another.

The pair tried to put on a brave face when the show’s host Maya Jama entered the villa but went on to admit they had a “wobble” because of the game.

A proud Peter posted on X: “Eggy Boff in Love Island. It’s gone mainstream.” With terrible consequences… he might want to think twice before playing it with his wife Abbey Clancy.
