Peter Kay has been criticised by some of his fans, who have accused the comic of putting on a below-par performance for his Better Late Than Never tour.

The Bolton-born star, 52, who has been heckled during the sold-out tour, which first began in December 2022, has been slammed by some ticketholders, who say they’ve waited 12 years to see Peter live in action again, only to be presented with ‘recycled’ jokes. One person compared the show to an evening at holiday park, Pontins, while suggested the show’s humour was becoming ‘outdated’ and ‘stale.

Audience members spoke out about the gigs on TikTok, with one person asking: “Was it just me – or was Peter Kay not worth the two year wait?”

They captioned an accompanying clip of the show: “Booked tickets two years ago. Drove all the way from Plymouth to Manchester.

“We were excited, buzzing… but honestly? Peter Kay just didn’t deliver. We expected a comedian – not a musical with random singalongs.”

Referring to the part of Peter’s performance where he sings advert jingles for confectionary such as ‘a Mars a day helps you work, rest and play’ accompanied by ‘a finger of Fudge is just enough’, the particular punter on TikTok appeared non-plussed.

Others shared the same sentiment, as one said they’d left the show during the interval, posting: “Left at half time in Belfast a few weeks ago, couldn’t understand the funny side of singing 80s TV adverts for two hours lol.” Responding, another asked: “Did he mention Spangles and Texan choc bars? That’s his entire act.”

Meanwhile, others complained: “When I went to see him, he didn’t stop talking about his dead nana. Been a huge Peter Kay fan since he came on the scene, but I have to agree. We saw this show in Glasgow a couple of years back and it was awful.”

However, others love the show and have praised Peter for his acerbic wit and brilliant take on everyday life, which has made him into one of the country’s most successful comedians.

Claiming the negativity was just a “TikTok thing”, one fan said: “Think this is a TikTok thing, seems the in thing to say Peter Kay is c**p.’

Others argued: “Hard for comedians… not allowed to say anything for fear of being seen as offensive.

“Thank the mardy a**e woke snowflakes, not Peter Kay. It might not have been great but if you don’t think Peter Kay is an iconic comedian, then comedy is completely lost on you.”

The Mirror has contacted Peter’s reps for comment on this story.
