Peter Kay launched into an expletive filled rant at multiple audience members before booting them out.
The comedian has divided opinion after kicking three fans out of his show at Manchester AO Arena. It came after one man shouted out his catchphrase ‘garlic bread’ multiple times, while a woman declared ‘I love you’. Peter said the hecklers were spoiling the show for the rest of the attendees, claiming there comes a point where “it’s no longer fair” to the rest of the crowd.
He has also stood by calling the woman Lisa Riley, in comparison to the Emmerdale actress. Peter admitted he “didn’t realise it was an insult”. A video has now emerged of the shocking moment Peter halted the show to call out the hecklers. Peter first paused his performance to respond to the heckler and he said: “Garlic bread? Kick him in the f**king face, will ya? Everyone around you is thinking ‘p***k’.”
He then demanded a light be put on the audience member and pointed him out to security guards. Peter said: “Give us a wave, k**bhead. Look at him, he doesn’t know where he is!” He then chanted if “you’re going out” and quipped: “Look, they’re all coming for ya, you p***k!” The comedian even encouraged people to film the chant before branding the heckler “Garlic dead”. He added: “He’s not laughing now is he?,” as he pulled up a chair to watch the main be removed.
A woman from across the arena then started shouting as Peter said: “Christ almighty. Bloody hell. I love Saturdays. Alright love, we’ve heard ya. Take her out and all.” He directed the security guards to “the woman in the black and white top from Debenhams Blue Cross”. Peter told the woman: “You’re going flower now, and all. You’ve upset every bugger out there, go on out you pop.
“You’ve missed the ending and everything. What a shame, your f***king big gob, drinking de-icer. Go on Lisa Riley, f**k off!” The woman appeared confused as Peter encourgaed the crowd to chant: “If she was f**king annoying,” before telling the woman “no refunds”. Some fans described Peter’s actions as “nasty and bitter,” leading them to exit the show early. The shocking moment the hecklers were booted out the arena was caught on a video published in the Sun.
Other attendees took issue with certain jokes, including an impression of a blind person and topic such as erections. The woman who was booted out the show has been revealed as 25-year-old Myar Curran, who traveled from Scotland to see the show. She broke down in tears after being kicked out of the arena and returning to her hotel
“I do feel he was on about my weight,” the mum-of-one told Manchester Evening News. “I know Lisa Riley has lost a lot of weight and looks great but she used to be a bit bigger. I didn’t used to be this big, I have put a bit of weight on, I’ve had a child. I’m self-conscious about that so to go to a show and feel like you’re having the mick taken out of you because of your weight, I was just a bit shocked.
“I’m annoyed and upset about it. The whole arena was laughing, I think they thought it was part of the show but there was a nastiness to his voice. It was like he was trying to get the crowd against me – it just wasn’t nice, to be honest.” Phillip Peters, the man who yelled out ‘garlic bread’, has also spoke out after he and his son were removed from the venue.
He said: “I just can’t understand it, all I said was ‘garlic bread’… I was there with my son and they dragged us out like ragged dolls.” The warehouse driver claimed he received a warm reception for his comment, including from the comedian himself, but when he chanted the catchphrase the comedian soon lost his patience.
Philip said: “In the first half of the show, I shouted out ‘garlic bread’ and they zoomed in on the camera on me. And I put my thumbs up and thought everything was okay. I got no warning or anything, people around us were laughing and joking. Then in the second half of the show I said it again, ‘garlic bread’, and that’s when the security guards came over to me and said ‘you are going to have to leave – Peter Kay doesn’t like people shouting out’.”
