The three girls were sitting on a carousel when a metal part of the ride – that was shaped like a tree – fell on the children with one suffering significant injuries

This is the moment a six-year-old girl suffered a brain injury as a children’s playground ride fell apart.

Three girls were sitting on a carousel during a birthday party in Ulan-Ude city, in Russia’s Siberia region, when a metal part of the ride – shaped like a tree – fell on one of the children, knocking her out cold. The other girls then fled the area at the Kovboy (cowboy) play centre.

A criminal investigation has been launched by the Russian Investigative Committee. “A large fragment of a carousel structure fell on a young girl at one of the indoor play centres in Ulan-Ude, causing injuries that required hospitalisation,” it said in a statement.

“The girl was taken to hospital with a traumatic brain injury and concussion,” said a local report. Those responsible for the unsafe ride could face up to two years in jail.

The tragic incident comes after tributes have been paid to a 12-year-old boy who reportedly fell from a roundabout in playground with a tragic history. Logan Carter died last month following an incident at the Wharton Recreation Ground in Winsford, in Cheshire.

Liverpool fan Logan was treated by emergency crews, but ultimately died at the scene. Logan is believed to have died after being flung from a roundabout in the play park, and there had been claims locally an e-bike had been used to spin it around.

His family said in a statement: “Logan was a much-loved son, brother, grandson, great grandson, cousin and friend to many. He had an infectious personality and a beautiful smile. Everyone wanted to be where Logan was.

“He was a little boy who was so full of life and wanted to make everyone laugh. He made every day worth living. Logan was everyone’s therapy person, their calm and he will be missed more than we can ever put into words.

“We are taking comfort from the words of support we have received whilst we take time to come to terms with the untimely loss of our blue eyed boy.”
