A contestant confidently stepped forward thinking that she had reached the finals of a beauty pageant only to be told she had misheard and she had to return to her place.

In excruciating footage Isamar Herrera, who was representing Panama, walked elegantly to the front of the stage as she thought she had got to the final 22 of the Miss Grand International 2025, taking place in Thailand. The cameras honed in on her as she began to celebrate while the other participants in the glamour event watched on.

But it soon became clear that there was an error as she had misheard the announcer who clarified: “I’m sorry I said Miss Grand Paraguay, there is a lot of noise in the room.”

And in fact the woman who had been called out was the contestant from Paraguay Cecilia Romero. There was nothing left but for Isamar to return back to her place but she did so with a smile on her face and didn’t appear to be too upset with the gaffe.

Afterwards she made light of what happened. “It was a mistake on my part, because I heard Panama. The same thing happened to Miss Canada, who thought she had heard Canada. A live broadcast is like this, and when you are not in front of the cameras it is very different said Isamar, reported Dia a Dia.

“I heard Panama’s name, and I reacted naturally. When I saw the camera approaching, I thought it was me. And well, that happened, it was nothing.”

And Isamar received plenty of support from her followers on Instagram. “I’m from Paraguay and I felt very sorry about what happened,” said one person. “You were a good candidate, impeccable every time you came out, and you deserved the classification. I’m sure better things will happen in your life.”

Another said: “I don’t like to mock other people’s misfortune, but how sad and humiliating that embarrassing moment must have been for you. I send you kisses and a big hug from Jinotega in Nicaragua.” The title of Miss Grand International 2025 title in the end went to Emma Tiglao from the Philippines.

Isamar was described in the contestant list by the Miss Grand International pageant as “a dreamer and a student of Advertising and Marketing who firmly believes that with faith, discipline, and love, every goal can be achieved”.

It continued: “Guided by resilience and empathy, she treasures her family, friends, and every person who crosses her path. As an entrepreneur and singer, Isamar has discovered that hard work and passion can open unimaginable opportunities. Her faith in God and spirituality serves as the compass that guides her steps, fueling her certainty that she can achieve anything she sets her mind to.

“Proudly representing Panama, she sees the crown as more than a symbol of beauty—it is a chance to inspire others and to show that limits do not exist when you fight with heart. Her mission is to be an example of overcoming adversity, reminding the world that true success comes from working with love, respect, and shining without dimming the light of others.”
