Shopping writer Eve Rowlands swears by this Amazon power bank for keeping her devices powered up on holidays and long train journeys – and it’s currently got £15 off

When you go on a long trip, be that by train, plane, car or on foot, if you’re blasting music, watching a film, following a map or simply nattering with your bestie on the phone to pass the time, it’s inevitable that the battery life on whatever device you’re using will drain pretty quickly.

When you’re away from home, the last thing you want is for your phone or tablet to give up on you. One solution is to invest in a good quality power bank that’ll keep you fully charged whilst on the go.

And the one I have used on the daily for over a year is currently on sale on Amazon, taking it from £35.99 to £19.54 for Prime members – just in time for Travel Tuesday (ie, the cheapest day of the month to book your next holiday, rumour has it).

While it’s not a well known gadget brand like Anker, Otterbox or Belkin, the V EGER Power Bank Fast Charging 30000mAh Portable Charger is a sturdy device that has been a saviour on long flights and during days out when Google Maps was used pretty regularly for fear of getting lost.

With a pretty hefty battery life itself – five to seven days although it takes a number of hours to fully charge from flat – the power bank can charge four different gadgets at the same time (without jeopardizing speed) thanks to its four outputs and two inputs. It’s also got ports for regular USBs as well as USB-C and Micro USBs.

The charging unit is pretty powerful too with a total 30000mAh capacity and 20W charge, and can charge your phone from 0-60% in as little as 30 minutes. Plus, its LED screen on the front can tell you what percentage the power banks charge is currently at. Plus it has ‘multi-layer protections’ built into the device that includes over current protection, short circuit protection, over charge protection and over voltage protection.

It’s a nifty little device that can be packed in your backpack for day trips without worry of being stranded without any power left in your phone to call someone or find your route home. My only gripe is that it’s not the lightest charging unit and weighs , nor is it particularly compact. Although it does fit neatly into my handbag (although alongside my phone, it’s the only thing), it’s certainly a bulky addition – something a number of shoppers have commented on in the Amazon reviews of the charging bank.

One said: “Used this for a recent hiking expedition and lasted me 4 days without needing power. However it’s definitely not lightweight, it’s pretty heavy. Love the white stylish colour. Great powerful power bank.”

That being said, its performance does outweigh this detail slightly – plus, it can be obtained in a handful of colours including blue, pink, white and black, so it’s not exactly an eyesore. Get it here.

Want something a little more powerful? The Juice ECO 30000mAh Portable Power Bank – Black, which is reduced at Argos to £26.49 from £39.99, has a 22.5W output from its USB-C Port and a further 18W from its USB-A ports. Find out more here
