Just a few miles away from Blackpool, a small yet historical town called Fleetwood is offering incredible seaside views – and it’s perfect for travelling with family or friends

If you’re looking for a charming Victorian seaside town with scenic views and a rich maritime history, Fleetwood is a great choice for a short getaway.

Blackpool, in Lancashire, has continued to attract hundreds of thousands of tourists over the years. Just a few miles away from Blackpool resides Fleetwood, a coastal town in the Borough of Wyre, Lancashire, with a population of 26,232, as per the latest available data. It’s one of Lancashire’s most popular seaside towns and is best known for its fishing port, as it stands on the River Wyre.

The town was originally planned to become a busy seaport and railway junction in the 1830s by Sir Peter Hesketh-Fleetwood – who also named the town after himself. However, when the railway extended to Scotland, its important as a plot declined. Since then, Fleetwood has since evolved into a perfect holiday destination.

One of the town’s highlights is its beaches, where you can enjoy stunning views of the sea and estuary. Rossall Beach is ideal for those looking to escape the crowds, offering a peaceful retreat. However, if you’re in the mood for outdoor activities, Marine Beach has a livelier atmosphere, with shops and restaurants nearby.

It’s also the birthplace of Fisherman’s Friend mints, as they were invited in 1865 by pharmacist James Lofthouse to help fishermen with respiratory issues. The breathtaking coastal views stretch as far as North Wales, the Lake District, and even the Isle of Man on a clear day, boasting two Victorian lighthouses and a view over Morecambe Bay.
